Well, after further investigation, QR 2.6 which will be out sometime this month, You *will* be able to do just that....
Put the tape devices on *any* supported QR 2.6 client and then use NDMP to backup to them ... even a NetApp!

Hrm, that's not what I need either. ;-) Can they do that, but
with the tape drive attached to the UNIX host? I would like to control and stream backups from a fleet of filers via NDMP, back to a UNIX host with a tape stacker.
