The only area of concern I've seen w/ sata shelves is that firmware upgrades on the AT-FCX mods is disruptive. The disruption is well documented and just needs to be planned when conducting an upgrade.

There is no issue with SATA in a cluster. You are correct that FC and SATA drives need to be on their own loops.
