You could always ask for them to backport it to 7.0.5 or 7.0.6. Probably 7.0.6, as I think 7.0.5 is all locked up now. If it's easy, maybe they can crank that out for the more conservative filer managers out there.

Since sysstat has the -m option which allows viewing AVG as well as individual CPU performance, it seems reasonable that the same data should be made available via SNMP.
We had an old-and-closed case concerning CPU data in snmpd and opened a follow-up case today.
Netapp's response so far:
- There have been a lot of discussions on how to implement this
- Engineering is planning to implement a new algorithm in ONTAP 7.2
- no backport to earlier versions is planned (due to complexity/amount
of code)
This is BURT 159087 - "Improve sysstat CPU% metric's ability to indicate true CPU saturation".

And it seems that this is indeed included in 7.2RC and 7.2RC2: http://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=159087
So - in a year or two when I upgrade from 7.0.x to 7.2.x, I guess that I'll get good stats again. :-/
