Unless you have Wintel BDC's you might not want to consider Sun's PCNetLink. After countless hours on the phone with Sun and NetApp we found out a few things. After installing it we now have to use the cifs prefdc to point to a Wintel BDC.
Although PCNetLink is ported from ATT Unix Advanced server, which in turn was ported from Microsoft source, it uses Big Endian format. Net App doesn't support that.
We were really dissapointed. Regarding the others (since we did some research). TotalNet is reverse engineered so question is how accurate are they? Again one small bug and you might have compatability problems.
Don't know too much about samba, I certainly would support an open-source answer and have heard good things. Again compatability issues?
I think Microsoft pretty much has the IT world where they want us.

Is anyone using something other than windows to be a PDC? i.e. LSI TotalNet, Sun PC Netlink, Samba?
Any suggestions appreciated.
