N3600? So that a FAS2050. If your inside disks are SAS there's no chance to use them on a 6040! If they're SATA you shoud buy one or two (if more than 14) shelves MKxAT and attach it to 6040.
The procedure could be something like an head upgrade but I'd prefer to backup someway the data and to scratch all disks!
Anyway no problem for hardware but for what I know you absolutely cannot run IBM Dataontap version on a NetApp head and viceversa.
This is what somebody told on this page also times ago.
So that, you can use i.e. the same license codes on both but you cannot dowload Data Ontap of i.e. a 3020 from NetApp site and run it on an IBM N5200, and, again, viceversa.
So I think you should first dezip the 6040 NetApp DataOntap on your currente vol0 (still attached to N3600), you don't have to push the download command! Once the the vol0 will contain the correct release of Ontap you will be able to attach the SATA shelf to the 6040 head and (maybe!!) to run!

Hello all
We are upgrading our storage from IBM N3600 to FAS6040... What are the best/recommended practices for powering it up... Does any one have some installation guides/check lists on this???
Thanx
