There's an open bug for that: 26017.
Its public notes are:
TITLE: Unable to delete busy snapshot DESCRIPTION: There are cases when the creation of a snapshot may be aborted, that will leave the resulting snapshot in a "busy" state. This has been known to occur when third party backup software and/or hardware does not gracefully handle tape spanning or mid-backup aborts. WORKAROUND: Reboot the filer to clear the snapshot "busy" state, and then delete the snapshot.
This bug will be fixed in a future release... :(
I love that description. Let's not mention the fact that it has also been known to occur when Netapp's *own* backup software does not gracefully handle aborts...
I filed a bug on the above behavior *years* ago. Perhaps Netapp has cleaned up some of its own internal processes but the problem remains. In fact, there probably will always be the potential for such events to occur. What the filer *really* needs is a "dump/restore abort" command that one can execute on the console to target any existing backup sessions.
