I'm going to chime in here because I think Steve's comments are un-warranted.
Steve> I believe there is a third difference as well.
Steve> Eurologic does not provide the applicable Netapp firmware Steve> revisions for the drives.
If these drives are recognized by the NetApp as ok drives, the firmware will not be an issue, since the drives are the same as NetApp drives.
And they are very upfront that the drives may not be supported by Netapp, but if you don't bother to have a maint contract with Netapp at all, it might be a risk you are willing to take.
Steve> This means you are using uncertified third party product to Steve> store your companies information.
This is a scare mongering tactic.
Steve> Good luck when your filer blows up and you try to open a case Steve> with Netapp using UCE supplied drives.
This is a level of comfort that each admin needs to make on their own. I've personally never had a filer blow up in my face. They just run and run and run.
Steve> Didn't we just have a short session on spam??????
Sounds like your post fits the bill perfectly too. I personally like having used component vendors posting to our list, it's good for all us.
I do have to say, I'm a satisfied customer of Union Computer Exchange, we bought some used disk shelves from them to save money, but they are still under our maint agreement with NetApp. Good deal for us.
