Check the All Log Entries report in NetBackup and syslog on the filer to find out why the tape drives are being downed - this should not be happening.
You can't prevent NetBackup from downing drives, but you can change the number of errors that will cause a drive to be downed (3 by default). Search the KB on the Veritas web site for details.
If it's not something you can easily solve, there is a script available called drivewatch.cmd which will you can add to the NT task scheduler to periodically check for downed drives and automatically "up" them again.

Hi everyone,
Does any one ever encounter this before? We have 2 tape drives connected to 2 Network Appliance Filer. It goes down randomly every day and the following error msg is recorded in the application event log. We are running Veritas Netbackup Data Centre Ver 3.4.1 on Windows 2000 ? But when we "up" the drive in device monitor, the backup completes successfully.
Does anyone know where to set on the filer or NBU to prevent the drive to go down?
