Hi Brett,
we use NetApps Snapvault product to backup the Exchange-LUNs to a R200. It's a backup-to-disk solution and shortens backup-time and backup ressource consumption dramatically (snapvault is based upon snapshots and transfers only the changed blocks). In my opinion it's easier to admin because you need not to mount snapshots on a backupserver via script. Once implemented Snapvault copies your (consistent SME)snapshots each day without additional work to do.

We want to backup the filesystems on the lun. Having done some more investigation, it appears the NetBackup Snapshot integration only works with CIFS/NFS shares, not with LUN's.
Which I guess leads me into my next train of thought. How are people performing backups to tape of EX07 systems? Currently we schedule regular snapshots using SME, and then run a script on a backup server to mount the snapshots as local drives and perform local filesystem backups on the backup server. To me this feels a bit cludgy, and not at all "elegant".

Are you trying to backup the luns file or the filesystem on the lun from the client point of view?

Hi Everyone,
We have not long had our FAS3020's, and have just purchased NetBackup to start putting snapshots to tape. NBU was chosen because of its Advanced Client's NetApp integration (and because our NetApp reps recommended it!). We're struggling to get the whole thing talking, and the Symantec consultants on site are struggling as well. Has anyone here implemented a similar configuration before, and would be able to let on any tips/traps/hints picked up along the way??? Or anyone know of any online resources that might help? (NOW doco focuses on Oracle implementations using NetBackup).
A bit of background would help I guess - We're running clustered 3020C's, with about a dozen hosts all attached via iSCSI. We have a mix of Exchange 2007, SQL 2005 (both currently using SnapManager to schedule snapshots), plus some standalone infrastructure servers (using snapdrive and the cli the schedule snapshots). We're talking OnTAP 7.2.2, and NetBackup 6.0 MP4. Let me know if there is other info I should include.
Cheers everyone!
