Is the data in these files ok or is it corrupt? If it's corrupt then I'd have a look at what version of Win95 is running and has it been patched. What you might be seeing is file corruption due to caching on the client and this might be resulting in the incorrect dates.
Another thing to look for is virus scanners on the Win95 clients which are being run against the filer. Some of these do funny things - like changing the archive bit so all your files now end up in an incremental backup.

We are finding an increasing number of user files (several thousand files at present) with bizarre dates, eg

The dates display mainly in the 1930s although there are a few around the year 2009! These files seem to have been created over CIFS from PCs running Windows 95.
