A couple of things to be aware of:
* You can't convert an existing directory to a qtree so you might have to move some things around.
* Make sure your NT users are mapping to distinct UNIX users. By default, if there is no UNIX user corresponding to an NT user those users are mapped to "pcuser". That's not what you want because all NT users will have the same quota since quotas are currently only allowed for UNIX security objects. You can test the mappings using the "wcc" filer console command.

Daniel... two brief answers to your questions.
#1. You do not have to start from scratch and create two volumes. You can create the quotas you want using qtrees. In fact for maximum performance you would be best off with the one larger volume than two smaller ones given the configuration you described.
#2. The filer's native dump command works for directories (qtrees) as well as entire volumes. Just remember when you go to restore a qtree you will need to create the qtree first, then run the restore.
The Data ONTAP System Administrator's Guide and the NOW site both have more detailed information on configuring qtrees and running dump/restore. I'm sure the other toaster users here can offer great information about what is working (or not working) for them.
