We used a different approach. We "grep"ed the source and looked for date related function/formatting. We then looked at the code and made appropriate changes where necessary. This was done to the Data ONTAP 4.1 code base.
I was wondering. Won't it be worthwhile doing , what I would call, "the mother of all tests", setting one filer at your lab to say, Dec. 31st 1999, 23:50 hours and see how things are in the next twenty four hours under load? Perhaps you have done this:-)

No. We have modified the software to compensate for the hardware.

- Have later releases (4.1.3, 5.0, etc.) had the same tests run on them before release?
We didn't actually develop a set of tests, so the answer is no. However, we have been looking at code as we create each release. We have uncovered two minor bugs which are targeted to be fixed in the release following the 5.0x release. I expect it will be out in early summer.
A complete test plan/certification plan is under development now. We have committed that before the end of calendar 1998 we will test and certify our products. We do not anticipate requiring any further changes, but if they are necessary we will have a release before the end of the year that incorporates any required changes.
- Can customers get access to NetApp test plans and results, directly or via a non-disclosure agreement?
Sorry, no this is not possible. However, this is an excellent suggestion and I will put in an RFE to allow this.
More generally, are people inclined to believe that, once certified by NetApp, the appliances can be treated as 'any other' NFS server by client machines, or would you advocate specific interoperational testing with NetApp kit?
It would be prudent for you to do your own testing with the specific applications/clients that you use, but assuming your clients are Y2K certified and your applications are Y2K certified then you shouldn't have any issues.
