We provide home directories to our mac users via Netatalk. OS X can also connect via CIFS. There is a bug in the latest netatlk with MS Word. You get an error 'too many files open' if you try to save over an exisiting Word doc. Otherwise it's works great for us.

Hi,
I'm looking for current experiences in a mac environment where NFS/CIFS won't cut it (yes OS X supports them, but older systems exist). The toaster archives suggest that a Unix / netatalk gateway can work, but the latest post looks to be 2001-ish.
thanks, steve
