Does anyone have any experience using Samba 2.0 as a PDC?
I don't know of any filer customer using Samba's PDC functionality successfully with the filer. I do know that based on my periodic checks with the Samba team on just when it makes sense for us to sink our engineering time into making sure we work with a Samba PDC, it's too early to start that work right now. The PDC support is not production quality - that's the word from the Samba team rather than mine.
So, we do intend to work with a Samba PDC, it's part of our plan and we're trying to make sure the Samba side is fully cooked before we start our integration work. In the meantime, if there are customers using it successfully they haven't told me. They certainly couldn't use it with the NTFS style security today - Samba 2.0 doesn't have any SIDS to return to the filer. Since that's the case today, I'm presuming your question is more around the user authentication per se - just one aspect of PDC functionality but the primary one Samba does right now.
Also, what products (like Samba 2.0), if any, are people using to synchronize logins between Unix (NIS) and Windows (NT PDC), especially in a mixed environment using NetApp filers.
Keith suggested our one-way tool, the MS Services for Unix is another one-way tool. I've seen some discussion on this topic on one of the Samba mailing lists - I think it was the samba-ntdom list - just this past week or so. You might want to check out the archives http://us1.samba.org/samba/archives.html If you find something you'd recommend then please let me know - we'd be interested in finding something to recommend to customers.
