I appreciate that the fellow at teaparty.net for hosting this. That being said it sends a political message that isn't intended for the NetApp community. I know its not related, but by looking at the url, external folks wouldn't know that.
Would it be possible to host this on google groups instead of moving from one boutique mailing list hosting service to another? Just a thought.
I don't want to bog the list down in meta-discussions about the list itself; I'd rather read emails about issues with aggregate renaming or ONTAP upgrades. But since there's been some endorsement of the original post, I'll add a couple of things.
Firstly, the list was emailed about the change over a week ago, and no-one complained then.
Secondly, although you say it sends a message, I'm not sure I agree. It probably doesn't say what you think to most people outside the US, for example, or to fans of Lewis Carroll (which is why I registered the domain name back in 1998, as some have already noticed).
Thirdly, this isn't a boutique hosting service, this is my colo'ed box, and my personal domain name. I started the list in Feb 1997, when I was working at MathWorks (which is also not a "boutique hosting service", as Matlab users will know). When I left, for reasons of stability I left the list there. But when it needed to move, MathWorks asked me if I wanted to finally take it with me, thirteen years later. I asked some local big NetApp users if they'd be happy to host it (they weren't) before deciding to take it myself.
However, the main purpose of the list is to be useful to the subscribers. If there's a genuine will to move it somewhere else, I'm happy with that.
So if anyone feels strongly enough about this to want to arrange some kind of forum for this discussion, please contact me off-list so we can put something together without boring all the people that would much prefer to read about disc shelf FCAL issues. I'll repeat: please, let's not continue this discussion here.
