Is this on a Solaris box?
If so, you could *try* an undocumented mounting options: -llock
This makes the client(SUN) do all the locking and none on the server side(so far as I can tell). The client worries about the locks and does it in its' own memory spaces.
This *will not* work if you have more than one client going after the same data...the server will probably have no idea that the Informix server is manipulating files.
