Hi
I'm currently running OnTAP 6.4.3 on my 760c. I've got 3 servers (Solaris 9) running postfix with high volum of mail. These 3 machines alone uses all free CPU on one of the nodes in the NetApp-cluster.
Are you only running the MTA on the client machines , or are you also possibly using qpopper also on your client machines? If you are using qpopper -- look into the fast-update (-F) and server mode (-S) options. We gained back 40-50% of our filer NFS clients.
This should have stated, we gained 40-50% of our filer CPU back; as well as decreased cpu load on the NFS clients. The I/O generated by customers actually popping their mail was generating more I/O than the I/O being generated by the mqueue files by sendmail by our mail servers on our F825 filer.
Hope this helps.
