Or you can run showmount from a client and give the server name, such as UNIX# showmount -a filer BUT PLEASE NOTE THIS CAVEAT: There is no reliable way to tell who all your clients are at any given time. NFS is stateless. Clients can come and go and they don't always leave nicely and do a clean umount so the entries tend to stay in /etc/rmtab for much longer than they should. If you want to see who the top 5 or so clients are, you can always use the option nfs.per_client_stats and then nfsstat -l and you'll get an idea of who your busiest clients are and presumably they are still mounted. The only showmount option that I have found to be truly reliable is the -e options which shows you what is exported from a particular box. DOT 5.x -> 6.x RAID/WAFL upgrade ?'s

Okay, can someone help explain to me what happens to volumes between Data ONTAP 5.x and 6.x with respect to the upgrade steps and times. In our situation, we're vol copy'ing data from 5.3.7R3 to 6.1R1. The first annoyance is that the destination filer (6.1R1) says the following: Mon Jun 11 15:57:13 PDT [turbine: rshd_0:error]: Filesystem version mismatch for destination volume vol2_2, reverting the version and aborting transfer. A console message will be displayed when this revert is complete. The fabled console message it describes never happens. Even so, please just send me a message that I can use syslog.conf to route to whichever logging facility I please. Sending something to the console only without possibility of configuring it to go somewhere else makes me very sad since I'm not going to be watching the console for hours at a time. Does anyone know how long the revert process takes? Our next problem is that now that we've vol-copied, the destination volume wants to upgrade itself. Again, does anyone know what the steps are and how long they take to upgrade? I found the following information in "vol status -c": turbine*> vol status -c Volume Checksum style Checksum status vol0_1 zoned Checksums active root zoned Checksums active vol0_2 zoned Checksums active vol2_2 zoned Checksums initializing: RAID upgrade phase 1 (of 2) in progress vol2_1 zoned Checksums initializing: WAFL upgrade in progress (BTW, wouldn't alphanumeric sorting be nice in output like this?) So is it the case that we have 2 RAID upgrade phases and then a WAFL upgrade? Are there more or less steps and what order do they come in? How long does each one take? Assuming the time is a question of the amount of data and beef in the server, we're talking about F840's working on volumes that are about 500GB big with 200-400GB of data on them. NTFS Formatting

I have a filer with UNIX and NT data. I want to move via ndmp to a larger filer. In preparation for the data move I read somewhere that in order for NT data to maintain security permissions, the destination must be NTFS formatted. Is this true, and how do you perform this if the host is a Unix machine but other NT servers are available. Also how would UNIX data fit on an NTFS format. Any help is greatly appreciated. It is correct that you are required to use NTFS or MIXED security style if you want to manage your data using NTFS style ACLs. You are not required to use the MIXED security style in order to work with both NT and UNIX data. You can access your data from either Windows or UNIX clients using any security style. FS: F330

Well, after a fruitless search for affordable (at least on my current budget) drives/cannisters for my F330, I've decided to give up and just get rid of it to someone that can use it for spares if nothing else. So: FS: One F330 According to people @ NetApp, this unit was probably a pre-release/ prototype/engineering model. Has a putty/beige front panel instead of a dark blue one, and the cover for the floppy drive area was either never finished or painted silver sometime before I got it. Has 2meg NVRAM (4 if I can find those other two NVRAM SIMMs), one DEC BA350 SESCSI drive shelf (no power supply or drives). No RAM on the motherboard, but we all know where to get that...
