Whether you're in native or mixed mode should have nothing to do with the Netapp's, since the netapps are not domain controllers, and native mode just means that you can't have NT 4.0 domain controllers. Being in native mode does not mean that all your clients must be win2k... http://www.2000tutor.com/tutorials/modes.htm From a white paper at http://www.netapp.com/tech_library/3113.html Filers may be installed into either mixed-mode or native-mode active directory domains. Mixed-mode domains resemble the Windows NT or pre-Windows 2000 domain environments. Native domains use and expose the active directory infrastructure. Both domain styles support pre-Windows 2000 computers. The difference lies in the administrative structure and methods. The filer will attempt to sense what type of domain exists on the network. Filers running Data ONTAP 6.1 will first search for an active directory domain controller by querying DNS for an active directory/LDAP server.* If the filer cannot locate an active directory server, it will default to looking for a Windows NT domain controller using the NetBIOS protocol. microsoft dfs and cifs.homedir

So I'm wondering if anyone is using microsofts dfs and the cifs.homedir functionality on their netapp together? I'd like to be able to point my users homedirs (Win2k) at a dfs share and from their direct them to \\netapp\username but it's not clear if I can make this work. it would be nice becuase then if/when we decide we need a new/different netapp I only have to change the name once and not for each user. I'm not really convinced that I can make this work but I thought I might ask. -- Colin E. Library device not created

Hi we have a HP DLT 8000 connected to our F85 ( 6.1.1.R2 ) and we are not able to access the library we can dump to a tape but cannot use the library thru NDMP . mcxx devices are not created ... do we have to create them manually or is it automated when the filer boot up ? ( we have reboot it without any effect ) thanks

Does anyone know when Netapp plans on supporting HVD Seagate LTO tape drive? I know they support the LVD Seagate LTO in 6.1.2.

wins authentication

Admins, I have been tasked with setting up my filers so that win95/98 users can map my cifs shares without authenticating to my NT domain. Is it possible to do this without converting my filers from members of my NT domain to members of a workgroup? Two things that I am trying to avoid is the need to give every PC user an NT login, and the need to have a usermap.cfg entry for everybody in the company!
