Limit access to CLI subcommand

Apparently role can only limit access to the whole top-level CLI command. Attempt to limit access to specific subcommand fails: > useradmin role add test -a login-*,cli-vol-status Invalid capabilities: cli-vol-status Could not add role <test>. Error: Invalid capability Is there any way to limit user access to specific SUB-command? So that user would not accidentally have possibility to execute "vol destroy" ... Is it possible to restrict NAS protocol access to specific interfaces? Something akin to: options iscsi.options.access if!=e0b This prevents iSCSI access on interface e0b. I would like to do something similar for CIFS and NFS.

Does Snapdrive require CIFS?

Hi Toasters, We have a filer we'd like to make full SAN only but weren't sure if Snapdrive would work after pulling off the CIFS license. I know there's been some talk about a limited CIFS license, and am pretty sure Snapdrive only uses CIFS to make the initial connection, but once the LUN is mapped you can bounce CIFS or Snapdrive and the LUN stays mapped... It just feels crazy to renew CIFS on a SAN only filer. Thanks for your input, Hadrian

convert from plain link to vif with minimal downtime?

Guys, I've got to convert some filers from single links to VIFs to my cisco switches. I know I can do this with some edit to the rc file and a reboot. Can I do it with the system up and with minimal disruption to NFS traffic? Or should I just look for some downtime and reboot? Basically, I've got a single link on e11a now. I'd like to vif e11a and e11d. So, from the console could I do: ifconfig e11a down vif create multi v1 -b ip e11a e11d ifconfig v1 <hostname> And be done with it? I assume I might have to make some changes on the Cisco side as well, but I'd like to minimize my outage if possible. Incredible shrinking volume

I have a fas270 with a volume named "san" containing one qtree and one LUN within the qtree. There is only one aggregate and it contains volumes "san" and "vol0" (root). The san volume is being synchronously snapmirrored to another fas270. I grew the san volume a little bit and I also reduced the snap reserve to 5%. Now as I watch the "df" output the san volume continues to slowly consume space. As I understand it, the LUN is a fixed length file, so it cannot be growing. I can only conclude that WAFL metadata files in the volume must be growing, perhaps as a result of the LUN being populated with data, or the snapmirror, or both. I'm concerned that I'll run out of space again in the volume, at which point I am just about out of options for enlarging it. Does anyone know what's going on here? As I have written this email, the space available in "san" has gone from 71667632 down to 71245556 and it's been dropping slowly and steadily for hours. Does anyone know what's going on here? R200 aggregate reallocation

Expand LUN for Exch data

VFM Migration Edition -

IHAC who purchased VFM Migration Edition to migrate file services from Windows servers to NetApp filer. And the software seems to be quite complicated. Is there any demo script how to demonstrate to the customer the way it operates (to run live demo on simulator, not flash or powerpoint presentation)? file locking problem?

I have a process that runs ok on the local file system, but hang on filer strace show that the last thing is tryong to do is acquire a lock 17:27:24 access("/netapp/file", W_OK) = 0 <0.000013> 17:27:24 fstat64(13, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=741376, ...}) = 0 < 0.000007> 17:27:24 fcntl64(13, F_SETLK, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=0, len=0} and it hangs on filer run the lock status -h and sm_mon -l <hostname> ...nothing yet....there is a hostname in /etc/sm/monitor file What is wrong?

NFSv4/krb5: name<->ID mapping just doesn't work.

Hello, I'm using an SLES 10.1 client (x86_64) client to mount a NetApp that's running OnTap 7.2.3. My LInux client is bound to Active Directory. My NetApp is bound to my Windows Domain (cifs setup->Option 1, Windows 2000 domain) and 'cifs domaininfo' looks fine to me. NFS was setup to use Kerberos on the NetApp. I'm able to mount my NetApp volume as type nfs4/sec=krb5 and I am able to browse my nfs4 mount. However, by default everybody's permissions are set to nobody:nobody which means that my mapping for users is completely not working. At first, i'd thought that this was strictly an issue with my nfs4 client (i.e. idmapd), but as I look at it more closely, I wonder if I've configured something incorrectly on the NetApp. For example, if I enable a NIS domain on the NetApp, permissions (for both uid:gid) on the nfs4 mount start to work correctly for everybody. Unfortunately, we're trying to end-of-life NIS, so using NIS is not an option. I verified that my nfs.v4.id.domain and domain in imapd.conf are the same. Does anyone have other suggestions for me to consider? Thanks! -- Nate

CD in existing DIR "test" different set of files are seen from server 1 and 2. on server 1 touch aaa, not seen on server 2. on server 2 touch bbb, not seen on server1. behaviour I am speechless! What can this be?

Tracking Space Trends on NetApp Filers

Hello, Are there any utilities/scripts out there that will keep track of storage trends on NetApp volumes? I'm in need of something that will show how much volumes have increased in space utilization over time. My first guess was just simply do 'df' RSH commands and parse/store the data, but I'd like to know if there was anything more robust before I began. Oracle on Netapp

Looking for someone out there with some experience with pSeries + Oracle. Is SnapVault, SnapMirror, Snapshot used as common replication tools for Oracle in the General Public versus native Oracle Replication or Snapshots? Long ago we also looked at Native clustering / replication tools at the P-Series level. Just curious on how many companies use the SAN replication tools for Oracle. I'd appreciate any insight you might have and I'll try and do some research on this. Yes, although it from the source logs you can see it doesn't hang in the "exact" same place it's always around 83G transferred. I reconfigured the VSM to a QSM this morning since it's really just qtree tree1 in the flexvol and it hung even sooner, at the 65G mark. I'm trying to get downtime to run wafl_iron at this point. Aggregate shows need check

Hi, We have recently upgraded to 7.2.3 and have created an aggregate containing 2 flex volumes however I have recently noticed that the status of the aggregate shows 'need check'. According to the manuals this means that i need to run a wafl consistency check ran on it (Wafl_check), can I do this while the filer is online and serving data or do i have to boot the filer in to maintenance mode?. traditional SnapVault destination vol to flex vol convertion question

Hi guys, We need to convert traditional SnapVault destination volume (2TB) on a R200 to flex volume. We want to keep the snapvault snapshot to avoid doing another base transfer from source located in another data center. VSM is not possible. QSM will not copy the snapshots. We have heard that there is a procedure with snapmirror –s options that do the trick. Can someone help us with that procedure? Many thanks in advance. Thanks,
