Along the lines of posting stuff we tried to post to the list in the past, here's some information about a situation we had recently, where our NetApp was crashing over and over, resulting in 4 or so consecutive sleepless nights for me. The situation was resolved in the short term by upgrading Data OnTAP from 7.1.1 (built 6/2006) to 7.3.3. Sadly, this was also the impetus to speed up migrating the data to our new EMC based infrastructure (not my decision). Posting here just in case it's helpful to anyone. Greetings, I haven't been able to post for quite a while so I'm quite happy things look good (assuming my post goes through). I thought I'd try breaking up the discussions about the domain name and test emails with a NetApp question :-) I was reading comments about reallocate with regards to a blog and someone posted this command to run: "stats show disk:*:disk_busy" I don't recall ever seeing anything about special constructs or functionality using the colon delimited fields. If this is available I'm guessing there might be other cool tricks available also. Does anyone know where there is documentation on how to use this? List is sluggish and takes some time to send posts out

As some have noticed, the list engine has been backlogging posts to the list today; in some cases, email hasn't been sent out until 60-120 minutes after it was received. I'm sorry about this. I think I've identified the "feature" of mailman that was causing this, and changed it. When I tested my mailman to see if it could cope with the toasters traffic, I didn't anticipate seventy posts in a single day. cant see luns on 1 of three hosts

I have three hosts io45ux02/03/04. 03 and 04 are working fine, all are running the same os (aix) and reside on the same hardware. Host (i045ux02) was working successfully prior to early last week. Had to upgrade the firmware as per netapp support All other hosts ARE working fine with no issues The HBA’s of the 02 host are not logging into the storage controllers FCP ports We forced a FCP restart on the controllers and all good hosts logged back in correctly any ideas ? Errors on i045ux02 with the cfgmgr command i045ux02:/> cfgmgr Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgefscsi -l fscsi0 ): 0514-061 Cannot find a child device. Purging events in operations manager

If I look in my Operations manager settings (DFM 4.0.2), I see an eventsPurgeInterval. What events should be getting removed by this setting? I have lots and lots of old events cluttering things up. Some are only in history, some are current. Here's one that's current. $ dfm report view events | grep 985209 Information 985209 Aggregate Discovered 08 Dec 2008 24482 toaster4:aggr2 here's one that's not current: $ dfm report view events | grep 620491 $ dfm report view events-history | grep 620491 Information 620491 Host User Modified 15 Aug 2008 root 25 Nov 2008 1810 toaster3 But other times I see things do get purged, so I just don't understand what is and is not disappearing. VMAX and NETAPP on the same SAN

Hi all, we're going to migrate some LUN from EMC VMax array to a new 6280 on a FCP SAN. At the same time customer has to maintain on the same hosts Windows 2K3 and 2K8 LUNs on the VMAX and LUNs on the 6280. First we will push the customer to acquire another set of HBAs to physically separate the traffic and over all for we have to use two different MPIO software on the different HBAs. But the big issue is that there's no doc that certify supportability of these two environment at the same time in Windows. I found old docs reporting supportability of CX3 and CX4 but neither a word on VMAX nevertheless it's on the market since 2009. Any suggestion? Regards,

Has anyone connected to an AS400 using VIOS?

Since it works for AIX power boxes so I don't see why it shouldn't work for an iSeries box as well but I don't have any experience with it. From what I understand the main thing that was preventing AS400's from using a NetApp box as storage was the difference in the block sizes but that's abstracted by the virtual IO server and works with other FC boxes now. aggregate rename

My question is specifically around 8CM but I would be surprised if it applied differently to 7mode. Can an aggregate be renamed without impacting NFS access by clients? Volumes cannot, obviously, but nowhere is a client aware of aggregate info so had I to guess I'd say it could be renamed with impunity. But I'd rather not guess... Thanks. Is there anyway to find out which client has mapped which shares? I'm trying to delete a share and even with: cifs shares -delete -f applications It won't go away and I get the following. Hi Chris - You're correct rshstat is not available in ONTAP 7.2.6.x. In attempt to isolate the problem, ssh is piggy-backed on top of rsh and telnet depending if ssh is interactive or not; so if rsh and telnet work then the problem is in ssh part. However if rsh does not work, hopefully, more information will be displayed. My thought is that all the rsh sessions and therefore ssh sessions have been consumed. The rshstat command would have told us. If all the rsh sessions are consumed, then unfortunately, a re-boot is needed. All the options below look fine. Since the telnet.access and rsh.access is legacy, please check options trusted.hosts to make sure this is set correctly. Regards, - Rick - -----Original Message----- From: Christopher B. Is rshstat available in ONTAP 7.2.6? If it matters: I'm still investigating this on our side, but I believe the onset of the problem was actually tied to an influx of bad ssh attempts (brute force attack), rather than any configuration change on our part.
