If you do the ndmpd status from the console what do you see? There is a quirk that some of the commands issued in rc actually are "finished" after the rc file has completely run. "ndmpd on" is one of these. If you do ndmpd status from the rc file, it will not show that it is on yet because the action hasn't been taken yet. If you see that ndmpd status shows that it is on from the console, I guess that this is what you are seeing. Doublecheck syntax. Check the entire /etc/rc file. How strange they werent able to answer your question. Amber means it has a valid AC source, green means the supply is switched on. I am trying to look this up, but do you have a case number when you got the "I dont know" answer..we want to make sure there isnt a documentation issue on our end again. Thanks!

F760 Power Supply Lights

We have an F760. Its head unit has dual power supplies. Each power supply has a green light and an amber light. It is my understanding that the green light indicates that it is receiving (and delivering) power, and that the amber light indicates a problem. Both power supplies have both green and amber lights on, and the F760 seems to work. What *does* the amber light indicate? Our NetApp support engineer didn't know. We've had some problems with this machine that required us to replace the motherboard. Shortly thereafter, we had to replace it again. Either a DLL is not okay or something else in the registry isn't what it's supposed to be. I have been messing with LM/NTLM authentication, SMB signing and other things that are supposed to improve the security of inter-NT communications. My guess is that something in the way NT handles CIFS that isn't supported by NetApp isn't switched off after I turned it on. I think I'll just go for a clean install as soon as I can get all my settings and other stuff backed up. Regards, Homme R. I believe you should look at the "Cleartext Password" setting, which was changed by Micro$oft from WinNT SP3. Has anyone put together a good swatch configuration file to monitor a netapp's messages file? I'm looking to put '* /etc/messages' in my syslog to capture everything, and have swatch do the filtering (and reporting to Big Brother if there are any problems). NT registry entries?

Hi there, For some reason one of my 2 NT boxes can see a filer, the other one can't. Hardware is identical, I can't see what registry values or versions of the NT dll's are the problem here, just that the files tells me that it can't make a TCP connection and the NT box tells me that the network path isn't found. Is there a list of registry entries that will set my CIFS and network setting correctly so I can access a filer? I really don't want to go through a complete reinstall just to get this fixed. I know that Workstation Solutions QuickRestore supports this particular feature, but there may be others too. As an aside, whilst slightly misleading, it's not entirely incorrect to say that a filer cannot control a media changer, as there is no built in software to do so, but, as you'll have gathered NDMP allows control by third party software. Also, the unload/reload tape device and the allows limited contol of a sequential tape stacker when using the built in dump/restore. Is it possible to query things like cpu load, NFS/CIFS/HTTP op's, quota initialize status, hot-spare-stripe-in status, and other stuff like that via SNMP? I did an snmpwalk on our 330's and 520 running 5.2.3 and don't see anything resembling those. Hi everyone, I'm having problems with quota's. The NT Domain Admins are showing up as UID 0 (root). I have removed the Administrator == root in usermap.cfg. This didn't seem to help. Anyone have any suggestions? OS 5.3.5R3 Thanks, Ethan Erchinger Certive Corp.

Do "cifs sessions *" from the filer console. If you have a lot of sessions you will probably want to do that via "rsh" and capture the output to a file. There may also be some third-party apps that give this information better than server manager. Or you can roll your own using MS scripting tools. How can I search and find out which user has a specific file open? I'm only running CIFS on an all NT network. I can use the "server" app in Control Panel, but it doesn't let me sort or search. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Two reasons.. One was wrong. The first reason, is I was told by sales people from software companies that the filer cannot control the changer. So I would need to hook up a server to do that. The second reason may also be wrong. I just bought a big AIT changer that has 4 drives. I was going to get a 5th drive to backup some of our local machines.
