Hello Douglas I work with Veritas Netbackup 3.4 and STK 9714 libraries with DLT 7000 drives. I am not sure your problem originates from the Breecehill library. I experience very similar problems to what you described, so I will write down freely some points I can think of. 1. Did the problems start when you upgraded to 3.4 , or have you experienced such problems prior to using 3.4 as well ? 2. Drives are brought down if they experience 3 i/o errors within 12 hours. Check the following places to see if this occur 1. Media log report ( invoke it from xbpadm->reports ) 2. /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bptm/log.<date> 3. /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpbrm/log.<date> 4. /var/adm/messages In all these log files grep for DOWN or Down - some lines before or after it will describe the reason for bringing the drives down 3. If you change passowrd on the netapps you have to report this change to Veritas NetBackup using /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/set_ndmp_attr command. If you fail to do it the drives go down. The art of HTTPD configuration

'options httpd.rootdir' allows one to specify at minimum a volume, such as /vol/vol0. So far I have not succeeded through the use of /etc/httpd.translations to access files on different volumes. Searching the NOW site hasn't revealed much either, although the documentation tends to indicate a 'map' entry in /etc/httpd.translations is the way to do it. I find it hard to believe there isn't a method to jump out of the directory tree specified by httpd.rootdir and access other parts of the filer. If it's not possible the SAG and 'First-Time Setup' documentation should be much clearer on the issue that once you commit to a rootdir it is impossible to access data outside of that hierarchy without redirecting to a client that can read the data off a mount. As I missing something? Is there some magic that can be done in /etc/httpd.access? Unix permissions on a cifs copy

When I copy a file on the NetApp via cifs, it sets the Unix permissions to 777. I have Full Control access to my share. Is there a way keep Full Control but make it so that all cifs copies would be 644? quota limits

Hi! My problem is that I have set up quotas for my users on F740 running Ontap 5.3.6r2. They each have 200Mb. But four users that work on a special project have extra space of 2Gb. I've set up a qtree with limit of 2Gb. But when the four users start to write, they hit their personal limits. Quotas can be applied either to an entire volume, or to qtrees within that volume. If a user exceeds either of these, the write will be denied. If you want to allow users to write more data to a qtree that would exceed their quota for the volume, you'll need to use a different volume for the qtree. Or to change the existing user quota to one that applies to a qtree instead of the whole volume. Of course, this also applies to group quotas. Hi! I had the same issue a fw weeks ago. The key factor is how you have set the users quota's up. There are several caragories of quota I believe. If you have given each user a quoa, with the quota type user then anything they write, any where on the filer will be subtracted from thier quota. This is how I understand it, but I may be wrong... A way to get round this would be to give everyone a root account, but this is a bit dodgy as far as security goes... Anyone want to speculate when we'll be able to fully light up a Gigabit Ethernet link with an NDMPcopy? Right now, a non-busy F630 is using about 45% CPU pumping 4-5 MBytes/sec through a single GbE link which is on the same switch blade as another single GbE link going into an F760 spending about 85% CPU to write it out. But I want to push something like 50MBytes/sec between the two. Is the problem that there isn't enough CPU to manage that GbE port or what? Does anyone else find this to be a pain in the butt? -- Jeff

legato ndmp and filer

hi, we have loaded legato 6.01 on a solaris 2.6 box. we have attached a spectralogic treefrog by scsi to an f760 ontap5.36r2 filer. the filer sees the treefrog and its tape drives[2 ait2drives]. legato sees the treefrog, inventory commands work, but we cannot label any tapes, we just get back i/o error. has anybody gotten something like this to work with legato? thanks.

Does anyone have experience with Veritas Netbackup 3.4 for Solaris and a Breecehill Q6.210 DLT Library? We have a Breecehill Q6.210 with 6 Quantum DLT 7000 drives in it. The first two drives are daisy chained to a NetApp 740. The second two are daisy chained to the robot, which is connected to a Sun 450, running Solaris 2.6. The third pair of drives are daisy chained to a NetApp 760. converting from unix to ntfs qtree

No, it uses FW Ultra SCSI-3 disks, not FC. Yes, NDMP backup is supported. Limitations? Well, as it's positioned to be the NEW entry level Netapp (at 3300 NFS ops/sec, it actually about 30% faster than the old low end F720, and about 30% less expensive), it IS limited to 648GB MAX storage (6 internal plus 12 external in 18GB & 36GB flavors), as opposed to the F720's limit of ~500GB. I'm honestly not sure which parts of the reversion take the most time...I'm just not that deep into WAFL. Was there any data on the volume that took 80 minutes? I would think that an empty volume with no snapshots should be quicker than a volume with data and snapshots. Again, haven't tried this in a lab, but it makes sense. Having a set of Filers that have been poorly planned and poorly configured, I would ask for a hand from fellow admins about how to proceed. (okay, I know the best way, buy a new cluster of 840's and migrate it all!) Given that I have 12 "36GB" disks (plus a hot spare) that have been added to one of my filers, should I: a) Build one large volume and control it's space via qtrees? a1) If so, should I lower the raidgroup size or leave it at 14? b) Build multiple (2? 3? 4?) volumes of smaller size Pro's & Con's for each approach would be greatly appreciated! Hi Neil, PVR stands for "Policy Variation Request" We use the term in-house when a customer needs to order a configuration that is not released yet. Netbackup problem...

Scenerio: NetApps 840's backed up Using Veritas Netbackup (NDMP) 3.2 on an NT server. Problem : Lost all the .jpg files on a particular volume on the NetApp filer, which is beyond the snapshots, Courtsey Virus... . Need to look for all these .jpg files from the backup and restore them to the same location. I don't find any option allowing searching for all .jpg type files recursively in a Netbackup index. Any solutions...????

If you read carefully the Legato documentation you will find out the in order to create the indexes for a NDMP dump legato will use temporary space on the server. You should have enough free space (and maybe swap too) to accomodate the indexes creation.
