Todd, The intent of the metrics is to show current FCS and GA releases for the purpose of making informed upgrade decisions. We decided not to show old releases because we felt they were largely irrelevant in the decision to upgrade. The 6.0x and above metrics that you're seeing are based on the platform you are selecting for upgrade. If you select F500 series platform for example, you'll see the release metrics for 5.3.7. If you go to the "Bugs Online" page, you can see all metrics for all FCS and GA releases on one page, regardless of platform using the "Release Metrics" tool. CIFS issues when upgrading to 6.X

i'm upgrading our NFS based 760 cluster to 61R1. easy enough, i've done that before. our NT team has asked that i upgrade their shiny new 760 CIFS based machine to 61R1 at the same time. i plan to do it using the same procedure, but am wondering if there are any CIFS-based gotchas. i am not a cifs-friendly person, so this is pretty much black art and our NT team is still pretty new to netapps. sort of the blind in one eye leading the blind in the other eye. this will be during a scheduled outage, so losing CIFS connexions due to reboots is not an issue. thanks -- email: lance_bailey(a)pmc-sierra.com box: Lance R. Why not configure the aix servers as a hacmp cluster and define the oracle instance as a resource group? With nfs mounts it only takes a couple of minutes to complete the failover and bring up oracle on the backup server. Ho-ray: Was just downloading some software from NOW.... Hey, there are these neat "metrics" on one of the pages. Cool! How about adding older releases, please? Only 6.0.x and higher are listed. Gripe: And, why when I'm downloading the software do I need to read a full page or two of licensing before clicking "accept." You know who I am, the cookies are enabled; yes, of course I accept. Declining just brings me back to the intermidably long features/limitations/bugs/doc/upgrade page anyway. Clever, the way the "continue" button to actually *download* the software is hidden way at the bottom... I assume all this information is contained in what I'm downloading, yes? Until next time... we will be configuring two aix servers as a backup to each other, with a 740 having the database files NFS mounted on the two aix servers. we will define the same oracle 7.3.4 instance to each machine and only one will be active, the second instance only to be started if the primary aix server is dead. if the primary instance is already running, will there be a locking mechanism that will prevent the other instance from starting up? this is to see if there is a possiblity of corruption if someone makes a mistake and starts the second instance when the primary is already running __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In 6.1, there is a threshold field in /etc/quotas that can be used. If a write goes over the threshold it logs a message to the filer. So for example you could do: /vol/vol0/mytree tree 50GB - 45GB Now after 45GB you will see messages in the /etc/messages file. It may not be exactly what you want, but it's a start. It will also include first level subdirectories and their size in KB, MB, or GB makes it user friendly, some users have problems figuring out the numbers. The Wyndham is on top of the list at that URL, though it says the Wyndham is only a half mile away. If you don't mind being a couple miles away, I recommend the Westin. While you can find place to stay within walking distance, there is not that much else to do within walking distance. The really nice thing though is the Light Rail: http://www.vta.org/schedules/light_rail_schedules.html It can take you to downtown Mountain View (good food, used book store, etc) or San Jose. E-Mail Alerts NDMP backups using NetBackup 3.4

We're using NetBackup 3.4... and every client will send us an email indicating success or failure of a backup except our NDMP clients. Has anyone had any success in finding a way to get NetBackup to send an email when an NDMP client succeeds/fails? Our implementer and our contacts at VERITAS are stumped. Thanks! Tom P.S. Thats fine if you have Sun boxes to run this from, but we (my company) are also looking for a notifier that can run from a windows platform. Use with Solaris and perhaps other versions of Unix." I'm not a filer admin, just an interested reseller, so I can't vouch for this utility personally. Perhaps one of the other folks on this list can tell you from their own experience. Officially it's recommended by NetApp but not supported by them. cifs prefdc for 6.0.1R3 ??

hi folks, is there someone, who knows a hidden option to set a preferance-list for DC connections for 6.0.1R3?? cause somtimes the filer connects to a dc over wan, and the latency isn´t that good to run oracle on the filer. in 6.1 its integrated and i think - maybe this option is also in older ontap-releases. any suggestions?? thx hannes

Dale I wrote a script, on a Unix client, that looks at each tree in the /etc/quotas file. If the tree is within 90% of the three it then sends an email the user who is responsible for the tree, our helpdesk, and senior admins. The file that I email also includes the sub directories of that tree so the user can get an idea of were he might be able to cleanup data.
