If you have NT security, the ftp users, which are Unix based, have to be successfully mapped to NT accounts. You can tell if that is happening by using the "wcc -u <ftpuser>" command. For example, if you are attempting to use a user "ftp" to access a file you have to be able to successfully run "wc -u ftp". That will show the mapping and groups for that user. If you turn on the cifs.trace_login option it will show step-by-step the mapping process. Of course, you also have to give enough rights to the mapped user to be able to access the files in question.

Subject: AW: FTP don't work!
Hi Dave,
I tried to configure ftp for our cifs only server.
It seems to work only on volumes with security-style unix and a qtree within
that volume with secstyle unix.
All other combinations didn't work at our site.
With regards,
Stefan Holzwarth
