Robert, Can you elaborate on what you mean by dropping? Are you losing connectivity from the client side? If so, what OS are you running? What type of switch are you plugging the Gigabit interface into from the Netapp end? What are the settings on the port on the switch? I am looking for some advice on one of the outputs from the ifstat command in ontap. when I run ifstat e4 (Gigabyte II card) I see the following RECEIVE Packets: 36865k | Bytes: 12517m | Errors: 0 CRC: 0 | Bad length: 0 | Undersize: 0 Fragment: 0 | Oversize: 0 | Jabber: 0 FIFO overflow: 0 | NIC no buffer: 0 | Host no buffer: 65562 Queue overflow: 0 | Xon: 0 | Xoff: 0 Unknown flow ctl: 0 | Broadcast: 48933 | Multicast: 0 Jumbo: 0 TRANSMIT Packets: 49391k | Bytes: 50119m | Errors: 0 Oversize: 0 | Queue overflow: 0 | Timeout: 0 Broadcast: 3507 | Multicast: 7 | Jumbo: 0 LINK INFO Auto (learned): off | Media type: 1000sx-fd | Link state: up Flow control: full The entry I am interested in is the Host no buffer: 65562. drive mapping issues

we are ontap 6.01r3d3, nfs and cifs. clients are winnt 4.0 sp5 using sun nfs client sw and native winnt cifs. filer dns name = file1 filer wins name = joe users is the nt share if i do net use * \\joe\users i get a cifs connection if i do net use * \\file1\users i get an nfs connection if i try to map a drive from the explorer gui to \\file1\users i get network path not found. our normal syntax to map drives using nfs is net use H: sunbox:/usr/local/h is there anyway to get a cifs connection using the dns name on a client that has both nfs and cifs on it?? we want to migrate from nfs to cifs. we want to use the dns names, and we can't [easily] remove the nfs client. thanks. -- regards

Hi We have connected a HP (Quantum) DLT8000 to our F85 but I am unable to access it see the error message below ( it is the same one with every device I tried to use ... ) sysconfig -a give the following result for the concerned device slot 6: SCSI Host Adapter 6 (Qlogic ISP 1080) Ultra2/Wide, Low Voltage Differential Firmware Version 8.09 Clock Rate 100MHz. ONTAP currently maintains 4 times: * atime, updated when the inode is accessed (unless you have disabled that on the volume), * mtime, updated when the file is modified, * ctime, updated when the inode is changed, and * crtime, which is set when the inode is created. Probably what is happening is that the Unix client is displaying the "mtime", while the Windows client is displaying the "crtime". The CIFS protocol has calls to retrieve the ctime, but I don't know of a way to get the ctime using the Win32 APIs. Also, the crtime is not available to NFS clients until NFSv4. So it looks like you're ok if mtime works for you; just use dir/tw from NT. Yes, the disk firmware process will automagically happen when the filer is first booted into ONTAP 6.1. Let me be the first to say, I could be wrong here, but since 6.0 allows you to offline a volume without rebooting the filer should be able to revert it back without affecting any other volumes. SnapMirror would have the same issue for the initial transfer. Basically the filesystems have to match. But since 6.x can revert, it works. The following is from ryanb regarding the list fun today. I'm forwarding it due to the fact that the toasters list is currently blocking all mail from his domain until I'm sure that things have cleared up. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the mail queues at Mathworks, so I can't clean stuff out... Wheee. That was a total fuxup when moving some stuff around/redelivering locally. I forgot to strip CCs and multiple recipients when modifying the headers -- again, I totally apologize for the goof-up. I'm thinking that somewhere between 30-50 messages got out, but I'm not so sure. Sorry! (Please don't kill me!) K.

Chris, Actually your information is slightly out of date. The current GA release is 6.0.1R3. Not 5.3.6R2. There are other 6.x releases available as well with different features added. I wasn't under the impression it has to revert ALL of the volumes, only the one you were copying. The volume upgrades are done independant of each other, so I wouldn't expect the downgrade to have to be done everywhere. questions on quotas and drive mapping

hi, using ontap 6.01r3d3, nfs, cifs, nt4 domain and nis. 1. our qtrees are now unix style. my quotas file looks like: /vol/vol0/users tree - - /vol/vol0/shared tree - - * user@/vol/vol0/users - - * user@/vol/vol0/shared - - * group@/vol/vol0/shared - - my question is when we convert from unix to ntfs qtree what will be affected? will quotas still work, will we still have to maintain dual entries in nt and nis? any other gotchas? 2. if i do this(file1 is the dns name for the filer, users is a share): C:\WINNT>net use * \\file1\users Drive J: is now connected to \\file1\users. it works fine i do this: C:\WINNT>net use * \\file1\c$ password /user:domain\nlehrer and get System error 53 has occurred. i am substituting in the pw and domain name. will the net use command work when mapping the hidden admin share? thanks. -- regards

Just checked on toasters and for an F740, the "Recommened Release" or "General Availability Release" as it is not called has been 6.0.1R3 for quite a while. The "First Customer Shipped" (previously called "Early Access") releases are 6.0.3, 6.1R1, and 6.1.1R2.
