One plea, from the heart: If your site has seen performance issues on NFS between Suns and NetApps please, please log support calls with Sun, NetApp and the switch vendors. And don't let any of them off the hook until you get patches, workarounds explanations and reliable performance all the time. It'll help everyone else - particularly of you have the chutzpah to drive the calls hard and make lots of noise. When this stuff gets back to the engineering groups *then* and *only* then will the decent work get done. Sorry if this is egg-sucking 101, but I find, as a conslutant (or whatever you want to call me) that people are way too backward about pushing the vendors, and far too willing to just moan to friends. This Sun-NetApp discussion crops up again and again on this list, and it's obviously a real bugbear for lots of people, so I'd like to get it squished once and for all. The 'options <protocol>.enable' command enables and disables the <protocol>. With ONTAP 6.2, there is a new feature called protocol access control which allows you to control access to a particular protocol. Check out na_protocolaccess(8) for more details; but the general syntax is: 'options <protocol>.access <access_spec> [[AND|OR <access_spec>] ... ]' where <access_spec> is: host [= | != ] <host_spec> if [= | != ] <network interface spec> legacy none all <host_spec> is a comma-separated list of host names or IP addresses <network interface spcec> is a comma-separated list of network interface names. The legacy keyword means use the old method for control. For telnet and httpd.admin, it is telnet.hosts. However, if you disable telnet, then trusted.hosts is not looked at. The same goes for httpd.admin. Has anyone got experience with running Oracle on NetApp filers? I am looking for information for a project I am involved in. 1. How does performance really stack up compared with a DAS or SAN solution? Does the IP stack -vs- SCSI stack cause a significant performance lag? 2. Are there compelling reasons why this would be a preferred solution? 3. Are there compelling reasons why this solution should be avoided? 4. What are the gotchas of such a solution? Are there configuration issues that can trip you up? I've read the whitepapers on the NetApp and Oracle sites. I am looking for someone though that has actually done this. Well my goal is to run a differential on the active file system monday through friday. Then on Monday morning at 12:05 am do a full on weekly.0. secure filer access

I'm trying to configure ssh/https admin access from any host to a filer, but no telnet, no http admin and rsh access from one host only (the admin host). I can't find how I can control ssh/https access separately. Hello Greg, I assume that you will be using SnapManager for Exchange, which is the only way we support the use of Exchange on filers. If so, the installation procedure for MSCS can be found in the SnapManager for Exchange 2000 System Administrator's Guide. You can download the guide in PDF format from the NOW site (now.netapp.com). You may also need to apply the Microsoft hot fix for Q307939. This will be called out in the guide as well. Hello, We have 6 servers hitting our NetApp 760 with about 25 instances. Love love love the filer. I have not seen a problem with the database even if the network goes down for some time (20 minutes and more). The only hiccup I have seen is if the filer is rebooted while databases are operating. A control file that is located on the filer may have a lock held against it when it comes back up. We run 1 filer and 2 local control files. snmp_traps with TNG unicenter

Hi, One of my customers are running snmp_traps on their F85 filer , he audits his other filers with TNG unicenter version 2.4. I have tried to find information about TNG unicenter with filers, but without any luck. Do any of you have experience with how to integrate filers "snmp_traps" with tng unicenter , configuration? Hi Ed, There is a product called RainStorage, by Rainfinity, that lets you move files between NetApp filers without interrupting access to those files. That is while the files are being moved users can still read and write to them, and no connections are lost. It is a box that one plugs in the same switch the filers are connected to. The box will put itself in-band when a move is initiated, and will go out-of-band when the move is finished (or later if needed). During the move, as clients access the files, RainStorage keeps both source and destination up to date by duplicating write requests. Once the move has finished only destination files are accessed and the source can be deleted. The product has been running for a while already at NetApp SE labs, they seem quite excited about it. ndmpcopy was originally created for copying files between filers, but it works extremely well for operations on the same filer. NetApp has made ndmpcopy part of the base OS in their later releases. It's definately on 6.2.1 but I'm not sure when they snuck it in there.. If you don't like ndmpcopy for Solaris and if upgrading your filer isn't an option, I'm afraid your stuck with very network intensive copies. They copy the files from filer to client to filer again... blah!! Hi, I recently began testing secureadmin 2.1.1D2 (version that will work happily with openssh). I left myself logged into one of our filers last night and this morning I came in to see repeated messages on my filer session... autologout: session idle for too long But, my session had not been closed at all. Does autologout not work with secureadmin or is it just broken in this release? Multiple Subnet's

Right now I have my Filer 810 connected via a gigabit Ethernet to our main internal subnet. I'm thinking of taking one of the 100 bit ports and sticking that in the DMZ. The DMZ nic won't have any access at all to anything on our internal subnet. I'm thinking about doing this so our web server could store it's files on their easily.
