snmp qtree index

Hi, I'm setting up monitoring of a qtree space usage via snmp. To do this I had to find out what the OID is that represents this qtree. Does anyone have any suggestions on easily getting this information short of doing an snmwalk and actually looking for it in the output ??? I thought that the qtree ID number would correlate with the snmp index for the qrKBytesUsed, qrFilesUsed and rPathName. But it does not. Troubleshooting High NFS OPS

We are experiencing high NFS ops, I am trying to find out who the high offenders are, however I am not sure if there is a better or more conclusive way. Basically: I am doing the following nfs.per_client_stats.enable on nfsstat -z nfsstat -h nfs.per_client_stats.enable off At the end of the mail I have attached a copy of the results of the nfsstat -h command (for 1 system). I just look for which systems have the highest percentage of reads and writes. My question is how do determine who the main users are based on the results of this command? Also is there a better way to do this? Are there other commands? NFS/snapshot activity log

What do people do to track NFS activity on their filers? Basically a real-time audit log on the filer showing NFS calls, file sizes, pathname info, uid, etc. I often run into situations where I can see a filer filling up very quickly (or the snapshot reserve doing the same thing), but no way of figuring who/what is doing it. I could sniff the network for NFS packets and decode them, but it seems the best place to look for this information is on the filer. It can probably make better sense of NFS streams than picking off individual packets. On a related note, are there any utilities available for more granular reporting on snapshot usage? Like being able to tell which file or directory or uid is occupying what percentage of the snapshot reserve? Now let the filer run for a little while and run nfsstat -l This will give you a summary of total nfs ops by each client since the nfsstat -z. This will allow you to determine which clients are "hot". To see detailed counts for a particular client, use nfsstat -h hostname This will show if the client is doing any writes. Legato backup failing on CIFS share

I'm trying to do CIFS mount backup on a Legato Windows 2000 Client. I mount a NetApp (DOT 6.3.1) share on the box which becomes the "J" drive. The legato group run fails with the following error. Anybody seen this before? zero length files

Hello, Has anyone ever seen a problem where the filer showed zero length files? We had some problem (of course this happened while I was out) This appears to have happend while doing a restore to a 99% full volume, but I can't really know the exact sequence of events. Thanks Steve Darragh

PDC and filers ...

Hi list Folks I am facing a boring problem which would request some netapp gurus lights ... We use OpenLDAP as centralized authentication system with Samba for windows clients. We have two filers ( F85 & F87 ) to store users data.The first one is a NFS server to be used by students and professors , it runs in UNIX mode and is accessed thru Samba + NFS for windows clients, this works slowly, but it works. Now I want to setup a CIFS only filer for administrative people that only use windows, the problem is I have no **real** windows PDC as our samba servers are acting as PDC to our windows clients. The problem is it is IMPOSSIBLE to tell the filer to use the Samba PDC as it seems to require a real M$ PDC which I haven't. It is MANDATORY for us to keep our unique and centralized authentication system with OpenLDAP as we have several platforms that *all* use LDAP. ( Windows, HP-UX, Debian Linux, FreeBSD, Red Hat Linux ... ) The question is : what is the solution to make a CIFS only filer ? NVRAM defective?

Upon initialising disks my NetApp displays the following: NVRAM test failed! NVRAM offset 0x300040, wrote 0xfe7e8201, got 0x457e8201 Program terminated ok Is my NVRAM defective? Does anyone know where i can get by hands on some chips for my F330? I have 4 SIMM-like NVRAM-sticks in the cache-card, and 4 free slots. Does anyone have a system standing around for parts? Hi Steve, It looks like the machine SID registered in the DC is different to the local SID on the filer. i.e. someone has deleted the filer from the domain and then put it back in with server manager without re-running CIFS setup on the filer. Is it an NT4.0 or Win2K environment? What may have happened is that the DC may have crashed and then was restored using a tape backup that was from an earlier integration period. i.e. 1. Filer integrated as "Filer" and is allocated machine SID S-.....-2314 (shortened for readability) 2. For some reason later on "Filer" is removed and re-added. CIFS setup is rerun. This time it gets machine SID S-.....-5236 3. DC crashes, is restored from a backup that was taken when the filer had machine SID S-.....-2314. quota messages

Is it only me who is bothered by this: Fri May 23 17:12:52 CEST [quota.softlimit.exceeded:notice]: Threshold exceeded for user 22638, tree 0 on volume v Fri May 23 17:18:12 CEST [GbE-II/e8:notice]: uid 22638: disk quota exceeded on volume v. Additional warnings will be suppressed for approximately 60 minutes or until either a 'quota resize' is performed. While first message is quite right, the second one has "GbE-II/e8" instead of "quota.hardlimit.exceeded" or similar. I've contacted NetApp about this and they just stated "nothing to worry about, it is normal". p. We had a "real" power outage with our F880 when the whole Datacentre lost power and the UPS freaked out for some reason. The F880 handled it perfectly. We had Sybase databases running in production at the time and when power was restored, they came up fine, now problems at all. I don't think that even a dbcc had to be run to clean the db's. Wish I could say the same for our old LSI/Metastor direct-attach SCSI. Took hours to get those monsters sorted out! I have done it quite often over the last few months on filers in the lab to show "non-believers" how well the filer handles the situation and recovers after power on.
