Wafliron/WAFL_check in read only mode/tell me if something is wrong, but don't fix mode

Hi, Due to a snapmirror failing issue, NetApp support have advised us to run wafliron (online) or WAFL_check (offline) on the source volume. They have advised us that there's no way to check a volume while online for errors - a 'tell me if I need to run WAFL_check in fix mode, but don't do anything now' (I realise that WAFL_check prompts before fixing) The issue is that we do not want to schedule offline maintenance with an unkown end time when we don't know if there's anything wrong with the filesystem. We expect that the check to take several hrs as we have 13.5m files & 340G in the volume. Have other run into this before? hi, Type bit scan done on vol The message is part of the inode file upgrade scan that generally occurs after the filer is upgraded to a new major Data ONTAP release, or after WAFL_check is run. Re: Quota usage non-zero but no files to account for it

Towards the end of July I attempted to post about this problem to toasters, but mathworks took a dislike to the messages for some reason, and so you may not have seen them. Summary of the original problem: when removing the home directory for a particular cancelled account, the usage accounted against quota did not fall to zero, but to 1376 KB and 896 inodes. No trace of these 896 files could be found within the filing system, but "quota off" & "quota on" exactly regenerated the usage values. Since then I have had the opportunity to run "wafliron" on ("vol copy"s of) the filing system, and it recovered exactly the lost 896 files into /lost+found. Some detective work suggests that the inodes got detached from the filing system almost as soon as they had been created (over 2 years ago): there is evidence of an unzip by the user going over quota being involved. At that time we were running 6.1R1. It is possibly significant that 896 is exactly 7 blocks worth of directory entries, provided the names are short enough. Chris Thompson Email: cet1(a)cam.ac.uk

snapmirror perf in loopback mode (36Gb/hr)

hi all, i can't be sure of the following point : if i set up a snapmirror on a single filer from one vol to another one, (without using the network as in two filer snapmirror configuration) does the snapmirror throughput is limited to the pseudo device loopback limit ? Monitoring CIFS Quota Threshold alerts...

Dear Toasters, I would like to monitor and send out alerts to CIFS users when they hit their disk quota thresholds. I am sure some of you are doing this now. I have setup up quotas and thresholds and see the entries in the etc/messages file (which is mounted on a Linux host) The entries have the SID instead of the user name, like the entry below. Fri Aug 29 07:38:22 PDT [quota.softlimit.exceeded:notice]: Threshold exceeded for user S-1-5-21-1177238915-1993962763-725345543-10399, tree 1 on volume vol1 Is there a way to get this message logged as a more human readable format ? i.e. something like Fri Aug 29 07:38:22 PDT [quota.softlimit.exceeded:notice]: Threshold exceeded for user jdoe, tree 1 on vol1 Currently I use Nagios (www.nagios.org) to send out alerts to the admin when these messages are logged, but would like to send the alerts to the user directly, may be also add their current quota, space used & % used. Any pointers? thanks in advance -G

Is this do-able? FilerA - onsite LAN connection FilerB - onsite LAN connection NearStoreA - onsite LAN connection FilerZ - offsite WAN connection NearStoreA SnapMirror the QTrees on FilerA and FilerB into one volume (maintaining the qtrees). FilerZ then SnapMirroring the volume from NearStoreA.

Hi Joseph, You should use the /etc/syslog.conf : By default you have *.info /dev/console *.info /etc/messages With the first line, it stands that every message is displayed on the console. So you can set up syslog.conf to have any kind of info redirected to a file. I have just been examining our Quota Report. Under the ID column, Domain UserIDs appear as expected for most of our colleagues however a small number of IDs appear as just a collection of numbers (see example below) user 280-1822 Data Home 637836 2048000 - 3718 - user 280-1776 Data Home 1469388 2048000 - 3617 - user 280-1145 Data Home 139416 2048000 - 849 - user 280-1093 Data Home 262820 2048000 - 900 - user 280-1943 Data Home 1132920 2048000 - 714 - Any ideas how work out which Windows NT account these belong to or why they appear like this ? Yeah, it locks the console. Use ssh/rsh instead. I'm not sure to understand your problem, but since you use CIFS.HOMEDIR mechanism, why don't you set an home directory for each user in the Active Directory, and then use Group policy feature to redirect my Documents to the home dir ??? I've got a similar issue when configuring the home directory in the user manager in our NT 4.0 domain. As I'm not logged on as the user, I can't see his homedir. Mike, I was just notified by a system engineer at NetApp that these converters will not work. The NetApp X6512A converter (same as the the Stratos) requires a powered copper fibre channel connection. The copper fibre channel port for tape on the FAS250 is not powered so these converters will not work. Sorry for the wrong information. I will let you know if I can come up with a solution. poor performance on a filer

We have an F760C that seems to have recently run into a wall in regards to performance. I'm tempted to say that it's just a problem with not enough NVRAM on the filer (F760 has 32 MB of NVRAM, and I think it gets split when you're talking about a cluster). When I attempt, via group policy, to redirect a users "My Documents" folder to their home directory on the filer using the CIFS.HOMEDIR variable I get the following error logged on the windows client: Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The full source path was <C:\Documents and Settings\colinj\My Documents>. The full destination path was <\\ccis-windows\net\myhome>. At least one of the shares on which these paths lie is currently offline. It's not clear to me why it isn't finding the users home directory and unable to mount it. Is this a known problem? Can it be made to work? I did find one other reference to this in the mailing list archive but there was no posted resolution.
