Does anyone use the pcnfs option on the filer. I am looking into using this with the windows services for unix that has recently popped up and was wondering if it is reliable. Boot menu problem on F760

Hi, We have a new F760 we just got here - powered it on, booted 6.4.2 from floppy and then used the normal install program to install 6.4.3 over NFS. Everything is fine, but when the machine powers on, it always goes to the menu that it displays when you boot off of the floppy (i.e. 1) normal boot 4) intialize disks, etc). This happens even though there's no floppy in the drive. Is there a flag I can set/unset somewhere that will disable this behavior and have it boot straight to the main OS? disk_update_fw

Sorry if this is a really basic question. I booted off of floppies (5.3.5R2, I believe it was), and reinitialized the array, took a couple of hours, all seemed to go well. But when it was done, it complained about the firmware revision on all the drives, and recommended I run disk_fw_update. However that command does not seem to be one of the available commands when booting from the floppy (and I can't boot from the array yet). What am I missing? Again, sorry if this is a pretty basic question. Any help would be appreciated.

quota report error?

I believe the problem we are having is either a reporting error by 'quota report' or a file system object error. The problem is that we have 4 quota trees that are completely empty but 'quota report' is still showing there is space being used in them. A month ago we moved about 600GB of data from different volumes on 8 740's and 2 230's to newer filers. All of the migrated data was Unix and all were in UNIX type qtree's. All data was moved successfully. The 4 qtrees below had all data migrated off of them, but are still showing space, and files, in quota report: tree 1 vol2 filer1.201 3044 4 89 - /vol/vol2/filer1.201 tree 1 vol1 filer2.101 27272 4 23 - /vol/vol1/filer2.101 tree 5 vol0 filer3.005 60 4 5 - /vol/vol0/filer3.005 tree 3 vol0 filer4.003 2596 4 6 - /vol/vol0/filer4.003 Filer1, filer2, and filer4 are running 6.3.3 and filer3 is running 6.3.1R1. I worked on this with NetApp support and they are not sure what is causing this. They are asking for down-time to further diagnose this, which is not very likely to happen anytime soon. We've tried just about everything with turning quota's on and off and removing and recreating qtrees, to no avail. We also ran wafl iron on one of the volumes. Any other idea's? There is a gotcha, CIFS requires that a passwd file with the following minimum entries: notesnetapp::5432:5432::/: nobody::65535:65535::/: pcuser::65534:65534::/: root::0:1::/: By default this file does not exist and if you are running NFS when you invoke CIFS setup NO passwd file is created. Easiest way to correct this is to shutdown NFS and re-run CIFS setup which will create the required passwd file. Have fun... Unbreaking a disk

Trying to get a few netapps ready for putting them up for sale, and one of them I had lost the password. I booted from floppy, but used a wrong version of OnTap (or something else went horribly wrong, not sure which), and the system complains about "no data or parity disks" and lists every drive as broken. I somehow doubt all 28 drives suddenly broke, so I'm wondering how I flag a drive as not broken again, so I can zero out the array and start over. (I remember knowing this at one point, on some hidden maintenance menu.) Any tips would be appreciated. And note to self: disable "return receipts" before posting to the mailing list. Sorry if I caused any inconvenience to folks, but I promise you, I paid for it. There sure are a lot of you out there :-). (I would have thought the mailing list software would have stripped return receipt requests, but oh well.) Thanks folks.

As an employee, I can buy one of the top newest filers personally but the hardware cost is a fraction than the licensing. Hi all, I am running Netapp F230 with Netapp Release 5.2.1, The Filer was a member of a domain, but the users were migrated to another domain, so I ran cifs setup & tried to join it to a new domain, it is throwing up an error, that a computer account has to be created for it to join the domain. Since creating a Computer account is going to take a long time (Dont ask me why..... there are so many issues to that. ). I tried to join it back to the old domain, to my bad luck the security information has been changed, & a new computer account cannot be created in that domain as it is being phased out. So I am stuck now. So I have made it as a member of a workgroup, but users are not able to access the filer, How do you create local users on the filer so that users can logon with that credentials. Or can somebody suggest me a better way of accessing the filer. Regards Manjunath HN

How to sell a netapp

I know this isn't a for-sale list, and I'm not trying to use it for this. But I would like to know what people think is the best way to sell a NetApp. I have three 1T-ish F740's that I am selling, and have tried putting them on eBay, as well as putting the shelves/heads separately on eBay, and the bids were just ridiculously low, so I ended up pulling the auctions. At one time I remember hearing about an ISP equipment mailing list. Is there any preferred list like this, or other common place for selling Network Appliance hardware? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
