i found that this is a bug Bug ID *117062* Title "Sensor PS_1_Present is failing to operate!" on F700 filers specific to F7XX there is nothing to do it's annoying but not important ... Ontap 6.5.1R1 CPU usage

I have a netapp F760 serving nfs, it is running Ontap 6.5.1R1 but the CPU usage is 100% when it reaches 10Kops/sec !! The old 740 never reached 100%cpu with Ontap 6.3.x with 10Kops/sec. Why 6.5.1R1 is using so much cpu running only nfs (no mirror, no quota, no atime, no snapshots) ??? Does the 6.5.2R1 solve this problem ? Can I downgrade to 6.4.5 with just untar the archive on root volume, install and type 'donwload' on console ? (or it will conflict with 6.5.2R1 ?) Thanks Cédric

Vscan Error: Internal Server Error

Hi Toasters, I have been getting vscan error on our filer. Fri Sep 24 14:26:27 SGT [toaster01: rpc_0:warning]: CIFS: Virus scanner 192.168.1.45 completed a scan on modified file ONTAP_ADMIN$\vol\toaster01_Vol2\Home\alfredbk\Windows NT 4.0 User Profile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\0H2NKPMB\yahoo.htm for client 192.168.5.21 (WORKSTATION55) as user alfredbk but returned the following status: [0x5] and status message: Internal server error I know that it is a common error. Anyone know how to clear this error from the filer? Setting on the filer or setting on the vscan server. I am using Carrier Scan SAV 4.03 Cheers, Alfred

Snapdrive a necessity for MSCS and MS-SQL on Win2k/2k3

Toasters, Does anyone know if Snapdrive is a requirement for the use of iSCSI connected LUNs in conjunction with MS-SQL/win2k(3) clusters? From what I can tell, it is more a tool to simplify the management of the LUNs, associated drives and snapshots. My uncertainty stems from NetApp documentation continually mentioning SQL/iSCSI in conjunction with Snapdrive. Is anybody using GB in a 740 Filer? The config on now says I can use a X1027B but somebody told me this card doesn't work??

X1027B (Copper Gigabit Ethernet) wasn't (isn't?) qualified in a F760, so we had to scrounge up a X1027A in the middle of the night during the downtime we had to install it. I'm not sure if X1027B wasn't qualified in the entire F700 series, or just the F760. We've got one 740 with 2 x GbE cards in it - part number X1025B (fibre). We've had them for a loooooong time, so they're probably not available anymore. However, they've worked without a hitch. Gig fibre cables

The 940FC that has just arrived has dual port gigabit fibre NICs. (Part number X1035B-C) Just looking through the installation workbook (for the NetApp not the gig card) it says that either 50 or 62 micron fibre cables can be used. I assume that the only difference between these two cable types is their quality and that either will work with the X1035B-C. Is this correct? TIA, - Michael

If your primary objective is to control disk space allocation/usage, consider setting "tree" quotas on the top level Qtree and not be concerned with a user or group who accesses the data within the qtree. In particular, a group quota does not limit the total disk space consumed by all the users who are members of the group. Each file and directory on a filer has a group attribute. When using Unix style permissions, a file's group is a group id number (GID), which corresponds to the third field in a Unix /etc/group file. You can use the unix command 'ls -l filename' to see what group a file has. A group quota simply limits the total size of all files that have that particular group attribute. It has nothing to do with the owner of the files. I don't think that group quotas are particularly useful because users are often members of multiple groups and therefore they can create files with different group attributes. If user X is a member of group A and group B, then X can create a file and set its group to A and that file counts against the group quota for A. But X could create another file and set its group to B and that file counts against the group quota for B. Of course both files count against the user quota for X. I'm trying to set up group quotas on a qtree. I'm trying to use unix groups that are stored on an ldap server to control who is in each group. Has anyone done this before? We currently have a DLT tape library connected to our F760 using the onboard HVD. We're going to change this out with a newer LTO2 library. The newer library uses LVD, so we have an HVD/LVD converter box. We also only use dump scripts to do our backups. It sounds like this should be as easy as - power off F760 - disconnect DLT library - connect LTO2 library with HVD/LVD converter - power on F760 - modify scripts in case any SCSI IDs have change Are there things we're overlooking. BTW, I realize we should have bought an LVD card for the F760, but someone had already purchased the converter and right now we're not up against any windows. You can apply tree quotas to a Qtree, then share out the Qtree as a CIFS share. NFS permissions

The File Access Management Guide says that I can use -anon=root on an exported path and users on any client will be able to access it. When I entered that parameter, I get an error that says, "UID in anon option is not a number". I need to be able to allow any user from any of 6 Unix machines the ability to access this NFS share. Anyone got any ideas about this one? I have a need to write a script to create qtrees on a Netapps Server. I have a UNIX Bourne shell script which does the job, however I need to set up windows permissions on them, specifically administrator = Full Access everyone = Read Access The default permissions are not appropriate when looked at from a Windows environment, so ideally I'd like to rewrite the script (it's not rocket science) to run from a windows environment and for it to carry on and do cacls operations on the qtree created. We've got Services for UNIX installed and have installed the Unix Tools but when I try to do an rsh to the Netapps, I get "permission denied" and "can't establish connection" messages. Anyone know how I can get around this? Can I somehow specify a second admin machine which is allowed to rsh? At the moment, the admin machine is a UNIX box. Resetting Parameters

What's the command to "unset" all the parameters and have a filer come up as if running 'setup'? I have a filer I setup on site in the US that needs to be shipped to the UK. I'd like it to prompt for new values immediately rather than wait for several processes to timeout and have someone login and run 'setup' again. 6.5.2R1 and F85 with external shelf ?

Hi I noticed the 6.5.2R1 is arrived :-) O happiness ! I read few days ago a note that told there is a problem between 6.5.2XX and F85 with an external shelf. Is this bug solved or do I have to wait to install another version onto our F85 "with shelf" ? Thanks -- Regards, Frank Bonnet
