UNCLASSIFIED Also check the NDMP version level that Arcserve is set at. Most backup software, with exception of Syncsort Backup Express v2.2.x, will only work up to NDMP v3. NetApp DOT v6.4 and above default to v4. Basically, when first tape is done filer is sending v4 status command to Arcserve stating EOT and request new tape mount, v3 backup software doesn't understand command and plays dumb, eventually filer will time out waiting for new tape and responds with a tape failure message. You need to change ndmp setting of filer to NDMP maxversion level of 3. >ndmpd version 3 Use command without version number to display current setting. If you are running a current enough ONTAP release, you can go into maintenace mode and do a "scsi format disk id" and see what happens. I highly doubt that will fix it as there is something else seriously wrong with the disk. Almost always, if ONTAP can't spin it up after a fresh wiping of the disks, then the disk is likely bad. --tmac Blake Golliher wrote: > Are they just showing up as failed right now? Thanks - couldn't change ownership at all Security tab missing for folder in explorer - ntfschown, cacls, xcacls and doing an rm (as filer root with "priv set advanced" on) all wouldn't work. Did find a workaround - Created at new home folder for the user and copied all his files to it. After he disconnected, I was able to rename the original home folder. The rename did something as I was then able to delete the problem folder afterwards. Never seen this happen before. Monday morning Question - NTFS ACL resetting.

I have a user that has been messing with his NT security in his home folder. He has managed to lock out administrators from access to a specific folder. Now he wants the folder restored - this is do-able from a snapshot but I have to put the contents in a different folder. Problem: I cannot delete the bad folder. I cannot take Ownership of the bad folder. I cannot even view the ACLs on the bad folder. You folks know of a way to remove this folder? We have the volume set to NTFS security. Must be a Monday - cannot seem to think of any methods to remove this folder. Thanks. Airflow in DS14 shelf if disk removed

We had a failure of a disk in our DS14 shelf (attached to an F810) last night. All the automatic shipping of a replacement seems to be working fine. However, if one leaves the failed disk in the shelf while waiting for the replacement, then every few hours one gets a message like Wed Oct 12 10:00:00 BST [raid.fdr.reminder:warning]: Failed Disk 8b.22 Shelf 1 Bay 6 [NETAPP X272_SCHT6073F10 NA06] S/N [3HZ171ZR000073420TXM] is still present in the system and should be removed. But I am concerned that actually removing the disk with its carrier would leave the airflow through the shelf unbalanced. I have compromised by disenganging the disk from the shelf but leaving it sitting in the slot, sticking out just a little. What do others do in in this situation? We had a disk in a ds14 cause a 960 cluster to fail due to noise on the buss. Air flow is not my main concern. Pull the puppy as soon as practical. jc James C. Formatting disks

Greetings Toaster fans, We powered down four F840s last week, reconfigured them with the newest drives we had (it's a long story), and upon reboot, at least three of the drives started experiencing random failures. These failures are enough that ONTAP gripes and marks them as "failed", but I suspect that a low-level format should bring things back to a sane state. Can ONTAP low-level format a 520B/sector disk, or do I need to find something else to do that? If the latter, does anyone have an idea as to what I can use? Hi all, Anyone out there that can help with the following: We have a R200 Nearstore with a Storagetek L80 library attached trough FC. We use Brightstor Arcserve 11.1 SP1 (latest patches) to backup a volume on the filer. All seems to go fine, until the second tape is requested. I just came across an article from VMWare on Raw Device Mappings that states the following: Raw device mapping makes it possible to run some SAN management agents inside a virtual machine. Similarly, any software that needs to access a device using raw SCSI commands can be run inside a virtual machine. This kind of software may be referred to as "SCSI target based software". We are using VMWare ESX 2.5.1 with our FAS960c to store VMDK files. We'd love the opportunity to better utilize VMWare and SnapMirror for DR with SQL and other applications but because virtual machines see SAN attached disk as local disk, tools such as SME, SMQ, SnapDrive and SnapMirror won't work within a Windows virtual machine for block level replications. I'm also not ready to base my VMWare DR off of a shareware product like ESXRanger. I'm aware of the NetApp article detailing hot, warm and cold snapshots of VMWare volumes but none are realistic in a production environment. Hot snapshots offer no guarantees of the snap being good and warm and cold snaps require you to shut down the VM or ESX host respectively. I'm not sure if this is new for version 2.5.2 but has anyone had any luck running these tools on a Windows VM in VMWare? Thanks, John T. After it report some recoverable error in the ECC SRAM for about 3 days. I try to reboot but It stuck at the boot. The LCD show the top half fill with Black box. I have try to remove all the PCI card and ram for reboot with the same result. Any ideal what is the cause for this, faulty CPU / mother board or any other? Was hoping to fire it up for enough time to retrieve all the file in the system and decommission the unit. Any suggestion to retrieve the file? Hello, We are currently looking to test DFM before purchase. Is anyone aware of where I could download the 3.x version. I have tried the NOW site but the tmp_account doesn't have the DFM activated.
