Really? I thought it would be closer to 465 or a maybe only a little less after format. Most of the time they count 500GB to be 500,000,000,000 bytes and then you get to lose your 1024x3 to make it the real GB. NetApp FC SAN - Experiences

We are going to test a spare 3050 head (with two shelves of 10k 144gb drives) with FC. We haven't used them for FC up to this point, and we are a bit skeptical of what a filer will provide in the SAN landscape. They have been great in the NAS environment. What are everyone's experiences? Do they perform well with SQL databases or databases in general? What do people use for Multipathing? Can we use PowerPath? Does anyone use SAN Manager in DFM? How does a 3050c compare to a CX700 in the FC realm? Sorry for all of the questions but we just don't know anything about them on the FC side. extending root

Hello, I recently got FAS270c with 14 x 136GB disks. It was preinstalled and configured with aggr0 raid_dp,raidsize=14 on 3 disks to make tiny 90GB root volume v. I don't think I need partner at all, it will be connected to a single host anyway, and I need maximum possible space. Can I unconfigure partner so it does not use any disks? How to extend it to all 14 disks, possibly without spare (it serves no purpose with double parity, IMO), so I get more than 1TB root vol v? p. -- Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. -- Commissioner Pravin Lal

I am Mrs. Fizah Mohammed , the wife of late Dr.Hassan Ibrahim Mohammed from Iraq who worked with Shell petroleum company and during his period of active service he worked in different areas and was also posted to other countries like Oman,Kuwait,Norway and Saudi Arabia as an expatriate(foreign labour) , am glad you know that expatriates are paid very well coupled with the fact that he worked with a rich oil firm-- Shell.During his active days in services he was able to make some good deposit and has it saved under a family treasure disguise at a security company in Thailand-Asia. For example, if you want to install IBM branded SME, you must first uninstall NetApp branded SME from the system. You could run OCFS using NetApps as a block storage device (iSCSI or Fibre Channel), not NFS. However, I recommend against doing this. If you have a NetApps already, you are much better off just running Oracle over NFS, which is certified and supported by Oracle on NetApps through the Oracle Storage Certification Program. There are actually two versions of OCFS, ocfs and ocfs2, and they are both weak. The first one was good *only* for oracle data files - you could not do regular file system operations in it reliably. The second one, an open source rewrite now maintained by SuSE Linux, is *only* good for standard files - it is not validated or approved by Oracle for use storing Oracle data files. You can use it for shared oracle home (where the Oracle binaries live, etc), but you can use NFS for that too. If you are looking for a Linux cluster file system, there are multiple other better options out there than OCFS. A detailed discussion of Linux CFS options is out of scope for this thread - drop me a line if you want the rundown - but for the NetApps customer, Oracle over NFS is a better approach all around. It's more reliable, you can use it for both files and databases, it's certified, and it is in production in lots of places. Grey, You should be fine. Depending on how your 980 is configured, your performance may change.
