vol clone split

Hi Toasters, I have a number of volumes running from a common snapshot and would like to split them out. All these volumes are snapmirrored to our DR site. However, when I try to perform a vol clone split, it complains about an in-use snapshot. Reading further, it appears that the split will delete all snapshots, so doesn't like the snapmirror snap. What is the best way to split these volumes? Ideally without having to re-baseline \ lose my snapmirror destination volume \ snaps. ssh <vserver> vol show <volume_full_name> hangs

Guys, I've run into an interesting problem on a 4 node cDOT cluster running 8.3.2P9 today. Basically, I've setup a user account with access to a particular VServer. It's used for creating snapshots and such. When we do the command: ssh <vserver> vol show <volume_full_name> it just hangs, and doesn't show anything. We have to do a Ctrl-C to get it back. But if I simply do a simple: 'ssh <vserver> vol show' it all works nice and quickly. So wierd. I can even do the show command when there are multiple volumes using a wild card and it works. ssh <vserver> vol show '<volume_*>' works, as long as it matches MORE than just the single volume. Using the -instance flag doesn't help either. I even tried moving the admin lif to another node, thinking that one node had some stuff ssh processes, but it didn't make a differnce. Thanks, John

FlexClone demo license expiration and existing FlexClones

Hello Does anyone know what happens when you have a FlexClone demo license that has expired and you have FlexClones that were created during the period the license was active, and you reboot the filer? Do the FlexClones still work? Do they get disabled but the data is still there? Do they get deleted? I was about to update a filer to 8.3.2P12 and AutoSupport correctly noted that this license had expired. Data on these clones is still used, of course, so losing it would be a terrible thing. One thing that sprang to mind is that I am SnapMirroring these FlexClones to a DR site already, so I guess worst case scenario I need to mirror them back (though fully inflated they are about 6t each). Event Threshold

Constantly receiving the below alert by email (for both e0e & e0f even though they are in an ifgrp). Can't find anything about it on the KB and would be interested to know how to increase the threshold and thoughts on doing so? --- Severity: LOG_ERR Message: netif.rateLimitThreshold: High rate limit on network interface e0e for broadcast protocol ARP being detected: 5001 pkts/sec. Description: This message occurs when the protocol rate threshold is reached on a network interface. Action: Fix the faulty network configuration or incorrect setup that enables a sudden spike in broadcast packets to bring down the node. If you still want a high ARP rate threshold, use the "bootarg.arp.ratelimit.threshold" boot argument to set that threshold. 7MTT Copy-Free Transition from FAS2240-2

Hi All Before I go too far down this rabbit hole I want to poll the group and see if anyone has some previous experience with this. I'm trying to migrate a FAS2240-2 7m system to a 9.1 cluster. A copy-free transition would make the process much simpler. However, IMT and the docs say the entry range systems like the 2240 are not supported for CFT. I don't see why it shouldn't work; I have IOM6s to replace the controllers and free QSFP SAS ports on the FAS8200 target system. I haven't yet tried pushing ahead in the 7MTT to see how far it will let me go. I'm assuming there's logic in there that won't allow me to do the transition with a 2240 source controller. Study guide for NCDA?

Hi, I’m headed to Insight to get my NCDA updated (rumored layoffs and such, best to be prepared). I’m having a heck of a time trying to find study materials. Braindumps and actualtests.com appear to have the same study guide with wildly inaccurate answers for the questions (and don’t cover ONTAP 9.x). Anyone out there got advice on where I can find proper study material for the NCDA test? - Scott

SVM-DR and root vol LS mirrors

Hi All All of our SVM-DR destinations were setup per the Express Guide which doesn't instruct the user to setup the LS mirrors on the target SVM. We therefore don't have root mirrors on the destination SVMs. I can't think of any technical reason why you couldn't do it and I'm leaning toward setting up the mirrors but wanted to see what others think. Do you setup LS mirrors on your SVM-DR destinations? Any reason not to? SVM-DR between two 9.1P5 clusters. Thanks Steve

DNS Configured Check - High Impact on ConfigAdvisor

Hey, can anyone explain to me why "DNS Configured Check" is rated as high impact on SVMs in ConfigAdvisor 5? I'm not using DNS at all in any of my SVMs, all connections are IP-based and all my reports now look pretty bad with x High Impact Issues where x is the number of SVMs. Also, the Management LIF configurations are rated as Low Impact and in my point of view it's also not necessary to have separate management LIFs for SVMs if I do not give access to them to my tenants or require any Snapmanager integrations. Any idea how I can tell ConfigAdvisor to just ignore those things? 7-mode DOT downgrade question

Folks, We have a rebranded NetApp array (IBM N-series) that we upgrade the ONTAP from 8.1 to 8.2 a few months back. In upgrading to 8.2, the protocol licensing keys were upgraded to the long format and also bound to the controller's S/N. Recently we had to replace the motherboard and now we've lost licensing on the one controller. The partner node is still licensed, both nodes are running. I am thinking about doing a "cf takeover" from the partner node and trying to downgrade the ONTAP back to 8.1 version on the controller with the replaced motherboard. Then reapplying our original 8.1 license keys and then upgrading back to ONTAP 8.2 version, while leaving workloads running on the partner node. Has anyone tried anything similar in the past? Any potential gotchas you can share? Thanks, Eric
