FDMI reporting with qla2xxx driver on Linux

Hi, I recently noticed that qla2xxx (Qlogic HBAs) driver on Linux is capable of reporting FDMI. By default it sends "Linux-default", and I'm failing to see how to change it to actual host name as it becomes way more handy then =) Any ideas? Cheers, Vladimir

NetApp API authentication

Having started to review some of our filer automation scripts, I'm starting to look in a bit more detail at the API. My first conclusion is - the perl SDK doesn't actually seem to do anything much - it seems to be a reimplementation of LWP and and XML Parser. Given I have LWP and XML::Twig installed, and am making API calls just fine, is there anything I'm missing here? Aside from that though - authentication types. I currently use ssh public-private key pairs, in a trusted account on a management station to enable 'doing stuff' with filers. It _looks_ like my only option with the API is to create a designated service account, and assign permissions... and then embed a username and password in a script somewhere. That just doesn't sit well with me - I like what ssh-agent will do in 'unlocking' key files, and I don't like embedding (potentially privileged) usernames and passwords ... anywhere. Does anyone have a better solution than a couple of designated API users (privileged and read only) with a file somewhere embedding their username and password? Does anyone have a better approach?

managing local accounts / passwords

We have use cases (e.g., backups) that require the use of local accounts on our NetApps, and to generate NDMP-specific passwords. We are using DFM for monitoring and alerting on our arrays. I see the dfm command line offers the ability to create, delete, modify such local user accounts, but there is no option to change the password? Am wondering how others manage these local accounts across multiple filers? We're still on 7-mode by the way. Flexcache w/ Clustered OnTap

I was curious if anyone knew if the following config is supported. Our 'main' filer has a volume that we make available in remote offices using flexcache. All of our filers are still running 7-Mode and we are about to do a forklift upgrade of our main filer. It is tempting to go to Clustered OnTap but its not clear if I would also have to upgrade all the filers in remote offices to Clustered OnTap at the same time as well or if I can continue to use 7-Mode and still be able to access the volume on the main filer via flexcache. Local netgroup file on 8.2 c-mode.

The local netgroup file is loaded onto the cluster via a URL. Do you folks know of any way to check what the current netgroup file is in effect, before loading a netgroup file on over the top? I've been bitten by a number of landmines left by previous admins in this particular shop, and I'd like to confirm that everything present in the current file is also present in the new file, before doing the load. zimbra netapp storage

hi, is anybody running zimbra mail groupware with Netapp storage? Do you have any tips on how to backup up zimbra using snapshots? We are now using zmbackup/zmrestore to a nfs volume, but that is not really very efficient nor fast. I was wondering if any of you has implemented a better solution. SnapDrive shrink lun

Happy New Year Toasters! Quick question for the group, we have a lun that was increased from about 3TB to 7TB. We now would like to shrink it down. My understanding is that I can only cut it by half due to a limitation of the OS (Win2008R2). My other concern is data corruption, etc. I have the option of adding a new lun and migrating data. Any recommendations from experience? Thank you. Kevin

Hi, Before I take a long journey with NetApp support, let me ask you guys. I have CentOS 6.7 server and I'm trying to attach a cDOT LUN to it as path discovery fails with: kernel: scsi: host 0 channel 3 id 0 lun4194304 has a LUN larger than allowed by the host adapter However it only fails with the message above for one HBA out of two installed into the server. The HBAs (drivers, firmware etc) are identical. The HBA are Qlogic relabeled as HP. So RedHat has a KB article for it https://access.redhat.com/solutions/67157 and it's advised to contact storage appliance vendor. I've seen that once, it was due to some FW files being absent under /lib/firmware, it's not the same this time. Has anyone seen that before? Cheers, Vladimir
