cluster peer creat fail

Dear toasters,I am getting a strange error when trying to create cluster peer on 8.3 systemNo firewall and routing seems to be OK, I can trace route and ping via correct lifs Error: command failed: An introductory RPC to the peer address "IP of peer" failed to connect: RPC: Remote system error - Operation timed out. Verify that the peer address is correct and try again. >From the other side, no issues, or error, but from original side, I get the above RPC errorThanks in advance

Analytics software for NetApp

Hi Everyone, I'm not exactly sure what I'm asking for, but here goes . . . Does Netapp, or someone else, have analytics software that will crawl through CIFS shares and provide info on the files? Things like director sizes, storage hogs, size/number of file types, file/size per owner, etc. In other words, software to help understand and manage files in a shares. I didn't see anything on NetApp's web site like this. Basic active/standy 7mode VIF failover config

Hi all - I have a bit of a throw-back question. I swear I've read all the docs availalbe (HA 7-mode config guide, system admin guide, network mangement guide, ethernet storage design TR) but I am still confused on how to properly configure a 7mode HA VIF failover in a situation where you only have one VIF that needs to float to a standby controller. Support tells me this is "not a common configuration" and that the solution is to have a data IP on both controllers, even if both controllers are not being used in active/active. I realize that I can do an ifconfig on each controller, with the partner option specifying the other node's IP/interface. However, this particular filer is just a large aggregate, single volume, single NFS access IP. So I don't see a point to having a data IP on the other controller... According to the ifconfig man page ( https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1196979/html/man1/na_ifconfig.1.html), this is possible: "On a node in an HA pair, a network interface performs one of these roles: ... A standby network interface for the partner. That is, if the partner fails, the network interface works on behalf of the partner. When the node is not in takeover mode, the network interface is idle. A network interface performs this role if it does not have a local IP address but a partner IP address, which you assign by the *partner* option of the *ifconfig* command. The node maps a partner IP address to a shared or standby interface when the node initiates a takeover operation. In takeover mode, all requests destined for the partner IP address are serviced by the shared or standby interface. Also, in partner mode, if a command takes a network interface name as an argument, enter the network interface name of the failed node. The command is executed on the shared or standby interface on the live node. Similarly, in partner mode, a command for displaying network interface information displays the network interface name of the failed node, even though the command is serviced by the shared or standby interface on the live node." Help me think this through. This means if I want filer1 to be active and filer2 to be standby with a sinlge VIF, filer1 would have something like 'ifconfig e0a 10.10.10.10', while filer2 would have something like 'ifconfig e0a partner 10.10.10.10'? -- GPG keyID: 0xFECC890C Phil Gardner

fcp zone show "too large"

I've been troubleshooting a FCOE problem - just tried to inspect the zon set with "fcp zone show" and got back an error that the zoneset is "too large". I don't think it is - this is a pretty small config, perhaps 50 hosts tops. So I think it must be something else. (Or maybe it isn't - I don't have direct access to the switch, so I can't say for sure). Has anyone run into this? (Or can offer alternatives for returning subsets of the zoneset from the filer end?)

FAS8020 HA pair in 1 chassis -- cluster interconnect ?

Hello, I've currently got a FAS3240 HA pair (with each controller in its own chassis). I am swapping the heads with a FAS8020 HA pair. This is 7-mode 8.2.x. With the current 3240's..there are a cluster interconnects that runs between c0a and c0b on both controllers. The new 8020 is a HA pair in one chassis. Are cluster interconnects required ? The Installation and Setup Instructions guide shows it differently for cDOT and 7-mode.. For cDOT is says to connect e0a to e0a and e0b to e0b for the cluster interconnect. This is listed as a "switchless cluster" for cDOT. (no mention of 7-mode here) For 7-mode and cDot for a "switched HA configuration", it has e0a and e0b for both heads going the upstream switches. The guide I'm talking about is at: library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMP1199906 Install Hardware (blue 2) step 2.2 I am not planning on using e0a or e0b for networking at all. The purchase did not come with any cables that will work between these ports. Thanks. Paul

Help with FTP

Hi, Data ONTAP Release 8.1.2P1 7-Mode We received a request to provide FTP access to a filer. Here is what they want: - they have 4 CIFS shares, each is in a separate vol/qtree (prod, test, qa, whatever) - from a AIX system, they want to FTP to the filer, access the each of the vol/qtree shares, and download files - they want to do this via Active Directory ID's and security - I believe they want to do this via 4 separate ID's - one per share, but I think using just one may be ok I've been reading about FTP on OnTap. I think I see how to enable FTP with AD ID's (NTLM style). I can then have ID's all access a single dir, or have each ID access it's own home dir. I don't see any way to specify a particular vol/qtree per AD ID. For Unix style access I could create separate ID's in the /etc/passwd file with specific vol/qtree home dirs, which I would make their CIFS vol/qtrees. But if I do this, I can't fine how the UNIX id's would access the CIFS file - it's two different security models. I'd like them to just mouth the CIFS shares to AIX, but they can't get it to work. I could use some advice!
