Orphaned volume entries in c-mode VLDB

Hey all, We had a number of volume creates happen on our 8.0.3 (admittedly ancient, but not upgraded due to lack of support) c-mode cluster, during a period of excessive load, when the target filer/aggregate was having some sort of problem. This led to the following type of entries in syslog: Feb 27 19:06:34 filer2a mgwd: mgmtgwd.jobmgr.jobcomplete.failure: Job "Vol Create" [id 208390] (Create v181771) completed unsuccessfully: Failed to create the volume on node. Reason: Node is not healthy. This may leave the volume record in the Volume Location Database. (1). Whatever problem this node was having at the time corrected itself shortly thereafter. This appears to have not created the actual volume on disk, but has also indeed left an orphaned record of that volume in the VLDB. 'set diag; volume lost-found show' doesn't return any results either. So it would appear we do indeed have a number of bogus volume entries in the VLDB. Doing a 'vol delete v181771' yields: ERROR: command failed on entry "dd v181771": Unable to lookup volume attributes for volume v181771. Reason: success Question is, is there a sane/safe way to clear these out of the VLDB? Thanks for any help!

We have two systems and their flexscale output is given below. System with the low hit percentage is a very busy system with Network shares, Exchange 2010 and VMware on it. I am seeing very low hit percentage for flexcache and want to know if this should be a concern. Thanks. I actually ended up running: dest> snapvault snap sched -x napc2_p2_EFT1 eft_sched 1@mon-sun@0,6,12,18 Am I correct in assuming that the "sv_hourly" name isn't significant? I couldn't find any indication in the man pages that it was, but may have missed something. I now have the following snaps: dest> snap list napc2_p2_EFT1 Volume napc2_p2_EFT1 working... %/used %/total date name ---------- ---------- ------------ -------- 0% ( 0%) 0% ( 0%) Feb 04 13:03 eft_sched.0 1% ( 1%) 0% ( 0%) Feb 04 12:49 red-str-napc2-p2(1574798766)_napc2_p2_EFT1-base.0 (busy,snapvault) 25% (25%) 9% ( 9%) Feb 02 08:34 schedule_02022014_074939.0 The "schedule_02022014_074939.0" may be one I attempted to schedule from System Manager and then removed. Presumably this snapshot is safe to delete. My intent is to ultimately convert this volume/qtree into writeable mode via NetApp KB 1010906. I haven't tried this with anything but the "base" snapshot present. I'm hopeful this won't cause any issues or confusion, but guess I can give it a test run. Ok so I'm stumped. What more's needed to set this as intended? Anybody knows? (Yes, I know what it's doing, or rather what is isn't doing and what a potential effect of that might be for our particular scenario.) Verify SME snaps -- yea or nay?

For those running Snap Manager for Exchange... do you verify the snapshots? We've been running Exchange on filer iSCSI luns for several years, dutifully verifying our snapshots and dealing with the added IO during verifies. We're currently in process of setting up mirrors to a remote filer, with the intent of running the verifies on the remote filer. I heard in conversation, however, that verifies have fallen out of fashion. Is it that the snap process has so little error that there's no point in running verifies? Are verifies obviated when running in a DAG? Thanks for your thoughts,

What triggers raid.disk.copy.threads changes?

Greetings, I've noticed that periodically the raid.disk.copy.threads option gets changed on my filers. It appears this gets turned on when disk problems occur. Once a disk is rebuilt/failed/replaced, the option goes away. I've noticed that I current have this running on one of my heads fro almost 2 weeks now. The disk has been replaced, aggr status -f/m report nothing, The vol and aggr status show everything as online with no redirect type messages. There are no new disk related messages in the messages, audit, or ems log files. Is there a way to figure out why this option is still showing up and potentially reset it? Constrained Access Model

Have an internal requirement to set up some file share space that is fairly restricted. While we can isolate access of course with ACLs (AD environment), we're also looking for a way to generate access reports for the data. The users would also like to restrict the ability to copy the data (though OK to view). The last one sounds like a non-starter to me. :) The ability to report on all ACL change activity would also be nice (though maybe could find some 3rd party tool for this). Am thinking that we could use fsecurity to enforce permissions (not allow someone to override) and explore CIFS audit logs to generate reports on access. Perhaps there is a slicker approach though or some pre-existing tool that would make at least the access reporting easier (assuming turning on CIFS auditing would generate some overhead). 7-Mode ONTAP 7.1.2P4 as a secondary system and OSSV on Windows as a primary. I have a relationship established and have been doing manual, periodic "snapvault update"s to bring across changes. I want to schedule this, but I'm not sure that snapvault snap sched is what I'm after or not. It seems to be about retaining snapshots of data and really I just want to keep one copy -- as up to date as possible (once an hour or so). We're preparing for a migration. Maybe I do something like: snapvault snap sched -x <vol_name> hourly 1@mon-fri@0-23 ? Thanks, Ray

We verify only the Nightlys and Weeklys, not the Hourlys. We only do this because we also have Single Mailbox Recovery and it seems to complain if you mount an unverified snapshot.
