Regarding out-of-sequence messages: yes, I'm aware that messages are arriving out-of-sequence again. This is caused by people posting from addresses other than those by which they are subscribed. Hi Im setting a new Oracle Database solution to replace a old Oracle RAC on EVA8400. After reading Oracle Databases on VMware vSphere 4 - Essential Deployment Tips i got a few question still needs answered. Our new storage is a FAS 3240 7-Mode We have a SATA and SAS aggregate and 1TB Flash cache available. Hello, We recently noticed that our / partition on one of our oracle RAC servers was filling up. While investigating I noticed that snap manager for oracle seems to be dumping files under /opt/Netapp/smo named java_pidXXXX.hprof. These files are all around 90 meg. It appears that this has something to do with java being run with the "-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError". Hi, We currently 3 filers, and are looking to move a snap mirrored volume to another filer, we would like to do this without having to recreate a new snapmirror and all the traffic associated with with it. The example is: Filer1 has Vol1 witch is snap mirrored to drfiler1 Vol1 We would like to copy/move Vol1 on drfiler1 to drfiler2, and continue with it being a snap mirror of Vol1 on Filer1, without having to reinitialise the snap mirror Drfiler1 and Drfiler2 are both on the same site so … [View More]

Hi all, We're starting to provide CIFS service out of a FAS2040, and we want to establish conventional backups with our existing EMC Networker setup, or our other NetBackup setup. If we use NDMP, is the folder/permissions data in the CIFS volume sucked across, with valid integrity, in the NDMP backups? Our Networker servers are based on Linux. If you are concerned about ease of mgmt I would go with NFS ass Jeff recommended, its as easy as VMDK files with out the overhead and additional points of failure (well, assuming IP storage at all). It might work for you, but the sort of random write IO that happens on an Oracle database doesn't do especially well through a VMDK. NFS mounts right to the guests, iSCSI mounts right to the guest, or an FC RDM will give you much better performance, efficiency, and administrative flexibility. Theoretical mixing of disks

Hi all, I know the DS2246 supports both SSDs and SAS drives, and I know this is not recommended, but for the purposes of answering a hypothetical question posed to me, is it technically possible to mix ssds and sas drives in the same shelf? Thanks in advance, Nick
