SL SMB misery

Like many of you, we have been having lots of weird issues with Snow Leopard and SMB. We've upgraded to 7.3.3, but that hasn't helped. A lot of the symptoms we are experiencing are mentioned here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11041594 For those of you that are having these problems, what are you doing to try to solve them? I: Snapdrive 6.2 and Net.TCP Port Sharing Service Issue

I've not surrended myself to Microsoft nightmares!!! :) With the help of Process Monitor I was able to find where that damned service fails (if not administrator). I don't know the reasons but installing and or patching .net 3.5sp1 (and of course the related patches to the 3.0 and 2.0 too) on a Windows 2003 italian (or other than eng) does not fix the permissions needed from this service on file system. There's a system folder where the LOCALSERVICE account need to be explicited with Generic Read permission. To do this you need CACLS. The syntax is cacls c:\windows\assembly /E /T /G "NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSERVICE":R From this moment ahead the Net.Tcp services stays loaded and of course Snapdrive too... I've tried every possible fix and workaround but I'm still getting the Issue 1 or Issue 2 and Snapdrive does not connect to the LUN Provisioning service... I suspect that there's some hidden issue caused to the Windows 2003 language: in this case is Italian. In fact the NT AUTHORITY\LocalService wanted to start the Net.Tcp service used by Snapdrive has to be NT AUTHORITY\SERVIZIO LOCALE...anyway if I manually choose "SERVIZIO LOCALE" as user it is automatically converted in NT AUTHORITY\LocalService. News on this issue. It's certain that is a permission issue. There are a lot of people on several forums reporting this kind of problems on Net.Tcp Service. DS14MK2 and DS14MK4 shelves on same chain?

Hello Toasters, We had a downtime on a FAS6040 clustered pair to add Ethernet cards and add two new shelves of FC disks. I had to rearrange the cabling of the shelf chains because the new shelves could not be installed next to the "tail" shelves on the chains. The 6040s would not boot up because the aggr containing the root volume was incomplete. The shelf lights indicated a problem with the chains I had worked on. While inspecting my cabling, I noticed (for the first time) that the new shelves are ESH4 while the old selves are all ESH2. I also noticed that the ESH4 shelves are set to 4Gbit speed while the ESH2s are 2Gbit. Not knowing if I can mix ESH2 and ESH4, I disconnected the new shelves in such a way that they can be "hot added" later to the tails of the chains. Then the filers booted up fine. Question: Can I hot add the ESH4 shelves to the ESH2 chains if I set the speed to 2Gbit? Or must ESH4 shelves be on a separate chain? All disks are FC, I am not trying to mix SATA and FC shelves. Several questions about ONTAP 8.0 and DS4243 shelves

Hi, we recently acquired two filers (3140) with DS4243 shelves, and upgraded them to ONTAP 8.0. I know that this is a GA release, but I did notice some glitches (which are perfectly understandable), and have some questions for the people here who understand this better than me : - installing the 8.0 doc yields a "Documentation for Data ONTAPTM 8.0 is installed, but is out-of-date." message ; - I couldn't find any firmware updates for the DS4243 shelves on NOW -- is this normal? ; - we configured the e0M interface (and I think that it is a great idea), but I couldn't find a way to configure the filer to exclusively be administrated through e0M (i.e. the embedded SSH server now answers on both interfaces) ; - since we migrated from a 7.x release, our root volumes are on 32-bit aggregates -- is there a way to have the root volume on a 64-bit aggregate (and if not, what is the technical reason for it) ? Do some of you have encountered the same questions ? FAS270 reporting interrupts -- fcadmin fcal_stats

Hello, last weekend we had a serious problem on one of our FAS270, which lost the connection to all it's disks on channel 0b which is the internal one. Today I checked some things and found one counter rising, which is in contrast to out other filers (other FAS270 as well). The counter is adap_spurious_interrupt_cnt and it is reported when running "fcadmin fcal_stats". Sadly there is no documentation within the man-page nor on NOW about this special counter. Anybody got background-information about this numbers? Ever come across a similar issue? Storevault to FAS snapmirror

Storevaults max out at OnTAP 7.2.1.... if I upgrade my FAS to 7.3.3, I know snapmirroring TO the FAS should still work...but what about re-sync, and/or reversing for DR failback? Am I stuck with 7.2.7 on FAS?

Moving dual attached disk loops from one adapter to another -- HOT ??

Hello, I've got 2 disk loops, both are dual attached. I've got 2 unused, dual port FC cards in slots 3 and 4. The cards/slots are listed as good for disks on the hardware guide. This is for a FAS3040, running 7.2.6.1. Loop 1 is attached to port 0a and 0c. Loop 2 is attached to port 0b and 0d. Can I do the following hot with no down time? 1) Unplug loop1 from 0a and plug it into 3a 2) Unplug loop1 from 0c and plug it into 4a 3) Unplug loop 2 from 0b and plug it into 3b 4) Unplug loop 2 from 0d and plug it into 4b I would wait after each step and verify that the disks are visible via both adapters with a sysconfig -a before moving on to the next step. I did open a support case with the exact text above. But all I got was a very non-technical answer: In rare cases it can be done... but it always has potential for problems. I will say :”NO” to your question, It is not a good idea to do it “HOT”. It would be better to schedule a time when you can have a maintenance window (there will be downtime). I can wait for an off peak time to try this. But I would rather not take the filer down to do it cold if there is a chance I can do it hot. Thanks, Paul

Thanks for all the public/private replies on this subject. I've heard enough that I will not attempt it. I've also heard enough that my reasoning for wanting to do it is premature and I need to find out why the expansion cards are not negotiating the FC link with the tape drive. Thanks again ! Paul
