144GB drives mixing 10k/15k in same aggregate

it appears netapp is only shipping 15k 144gb drives now. all of our existing aggregates are 10K drives. we need to expand an existing aggregate. other than not getting the full benefit of an all 15K rpm aggregate will this cause any issues. we are already happy with the performance of the 10k drives and im pretty sure this wont have any affect but just checking. of course it would be much more noticeable if we went from 15k to 10k. thanks

Limit access to CLI subcommand

Apparently role can only limit access to the whole top-level CLI command. Attempt to limit access to specific subcommand fails: > useradmin role add test -a login-*,cli-vol-status Invalid capabilities: cli-vol-status Could not add role <test>. Error: Invalid capability Is there any way to limit user access to specific SUB-command? So that user would not accidentally have possibility to execute "vol destroy" ... Restricing Protocol Access

Is it possible to restrict NAS protocol access to specific interfaces? Something akin to: options iscsi.options.access if!=e0b This prevents iSCSI access on interface e0b. I would like to do something similar for CIFS and NFS.

Does Snapdrive require CIFS?

Hi Toasters, We have a filer we'd like to make full SAN only but weren't sure if Snapdrive would work after pulling off the CIFS license. I know there's been some talk about a limited CIFS license, and am pretty sure Snapdrive only uses CIFS to make the initial connection, but once the LUN is mapped you can bounce CIFS or Snapdrive and the LUN stays mapped... It just feels crazy to renew CIFS on a SAN only filer. Thanks for your input, Hadrian

convert from plain link to vif with minimal downtime?

Guys, I've got to convert some filers from single links to VIFs to my cisco switches. I know I can do this with some edit to the rc file and a reboot. Can I do it with the system up and with minimal disruption to NFS traffic? Or should I just look for some downtime and reboot? Basically, I've got a single link on e11a now. I'd like to vif e11a and e11d. So, from the console could I do: ifconfig e11a down vif create multi v1 -b ip e11a e11d ifconfig v1 <hostname> And be done with it? I assume I might have to make some changes on the Cisco side as well, but I'd like to minimize my outage if possible. AS/400 data on NetApp storage?

Toasters: Are any of you (or know of anyone) running AS/400 system with storage on NetApp? If so, how is the configuration? What is your experience? Incredible shrinking volume

I have a fas270 with a volume named "san" containing one qtree and one LUN within the qtree. There is only one aggregate and it contains volumes "san" and "vol0" (root). The san volume is being synchronously snapmirrored to another fas270. Here are the sizes of everything: df -A Aggregate kbytes used avail capacity aggr0 1253187072 1200347772 52839300 96% aggr0/.snapshot 0 0 0 ---% df Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on /vol/vol0/ 16777216 349732 16427484 2% /vol/vol0/ /vol/vol0/.snapshot 4194304 64892 4129412 2% /vol/vol0/.snapshot /vol/san/ 1119669456 1048001824 71667632 94% /vol/san/ /vol/san/.snapshot 58929968 102176 58827792 0% /vol/san/.snapshot lun show /vol/san/vmail/lun0 900.1g (966503301120) (r/w, online, mapped) I got an autosupport email saying that the san volume had run out of space, and it was indeed 100% full. I grew the san volume a little bit and I also reduced the snap reserve to 5%. Now as I watch the "df" output the san volume continues to slowly consume space. As I understand it, the LUN is a fixed length file, so it cannot be growing. I can only conclude that WAFL metadata files in the volume must be growing, perhaps as a result of the LUN being populated with data, or the snapmirror, or both. I'm concerned that I'll run out of space again in the volume, at which point I am just about out of options for enlarging it. Does anyone know what's going on here? As I have written this email, the space available in "san" has gone from 71667632 down to 71245556 and it's been dropping slowly and steadily for hours. Does anyone know what's going on here? R200 aggregate reallocation

Hi, I had to add just 2 disk to an existing aggregate. I suspect those disks will end up being a performance bottleneck, so I tried to start reallocation of the aggregate: toaster> reallocate start -A aggr0 Unable to start reallocation scan on 'aggr0': Aggregate created on older version of ONTAP What's the best way to proceed? -- Eino Tuominen
