Block vs Zoned checksum disks

Hi, I've got an old lab filer with a shelf of X231 disks. I've got my hands on a couple of extra 36GB disks to act as spares, but it turns out they're X225s rather than X231s - ie a 512 byte sector size rather than a 520 byte sector size. The /etc/qual_devices file lists the following: D NETAPP X225_ST336704FC NA42 512 D NETAPP X231_ST336704FC NA42 520 The two disks are obviously identical seagate drives, but AFAIR (I could be wrong, it's been a long day) I can't use a 512 byte drive in a volume of 520 byte drives. Is this correct? If so, is there any way around this? I can re-format the drives with a 520 byte sector size - and add an X225 line with a 520 byte sector size, would that do the trick? If not, is there any way of changing the disk label from X225 to X231? Thanks in advance, -Ronan

SnapDrive for Linux

All Can anyone help me with SnapDrive for Linux? I'm using CentOS 4.4 kernel 2.6.9-42.0.10, iSCSI initiator 4.0.3.0-4, latest Host Utilities Kit and latest SnapDrive for Linux. Filer is running ONTAP 7.2. I can connect to the filer with no problems and mount drives on my Linux server provided I don't use LVM. When I try to create LUNs using LVM I get a weird error. This is the command I'm using: [root@vader ~]# snapdrive storage create -fs /filerlun2 -dg netappdg2 -lun fas250:/vol/linuxlun/lun1 lun2 lun3 -lunsize 1g 0001-417 Command error: The following names are already in use: netappdg2. Please specify other names. There are absolutely no disk group names called this already: [root@vader ~]# lvscan ACTIVE '/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00' [4.34 GB] inherit ACTIVE '/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol01' [512.00 MB] inherit I've used SnapDrive for HPUX before with no problems using LVM. I'm aware that CentOS isn't officially supported, but I was hoping it would work since RHEL is supported (and it's only a test environment anyway). Is there something I'm missing here? Upgrading Data OnTap

I would like to upgrade my filer from data ontap 7.1p1 to 7.1.2 and I just want to make sure I am doing it write. I plan on doing the following: 1. disable the cluster 2. mount the c$ share as a drive 3. run the 7.1.2 installer 4. reboot 5. repeat with the other cluster partner 6. enable the cluster. mounting snapshots

Hello, I am having the hardest time understanding fractional space reservations for volumes and lun space reservations. If I reduce fractional space reservations to a volume that contain luns, what happens to lun space reservations? Is there a way to throttle lun space reservations -- as far as I can tell it's just a check box in Filerview.... The main question I have is --- does setting fractional space reservation affect my ability to mount snapshots. I assume that mounting snapshots does not take any space since it's all read-only.... or am i wrong in assuming this? My assumption right now is that fractional space reserve is there if I ever need to mount a snapshot to be read/write --- am I dead wrong? Thanks, Steve

We had to reboot the filer after deleting the queued autosupports. Not a great solution, but it worked. Dirty Parity

*This is my second attempt to send this to the list. If it shows up twice, I apologize. We had a situation last year in which one of the aggregates on our R100 suffered dirty parity in one of its raid groups which forced us to take the filer down for several hours while we ran WAFL_Check on that aggregate. Given this, I have a few questions: 1. What is the likelihood of getting dirty parity? I assume the likelihood goes up dramatically on a box like the R100 given that the weekly RAID scrubs seldom if ever complete. 2. If this had occurred on a cluster, could we take one node down to run the WAFL_Check, while the other node continues to serve data from the other aggregates? 3. How many of you have encountered something like this and decided to go with SyncMirror to protect against such a thing? Thanks, --Carl

No one is stating that you cannot map users with LDAP - however, if the user names are not alike between unix and windows is the key. Reading the ONTAP documentation, you must specify the windowsaccount attribute and the unixaccount attribute. So long as these attributes match, then you should map - if they do not match, then there is no way to map. It IS possible, as Tom states, to do the usermapping through ldap, it's been around for quite some time.. Check options cifs.trace_dc_connection to see if the connection to the ldap server is working. (Don't know if this is valid only for AD ldap services...?) I got usermap problem after uppgrade to 7.2.1.1. I use ldap.usermap for usermapping. The unix name are not the same as windows name. With unix name same as windows name it still works.
