DR suggestions for CIFS

Guys, I'd require some input for a project I'm involved in. I have two sets of 3050 clusters in two sites. The primary site is serving CIFS data to home and project directories. The secondary site is just the snapvault destination, and tape backup source. Now, we're planning to do a DR implementation for this setup. From what I can recall, there are a few things that you need to do to make it work: 1. have snapmirror and snapvault (SM-SV combo) license at the secondary site. I can turn a snapvaulted volume snapshot into a RW volume. Is that correct? 2. I copy the cifs shares config file from the primary filer, edit it a little bit, and paste it into the secondary filer 3. I need refresh my DNS server to point to the secondary filer IP address using the primary filer hostname. Anything else that I need to do? I heard something about changing netbios names as well, but I don't really understand windows enough to know what that will do to help with the DR. Oh, and also, the MS active directory domain are running on win2k3 servers. I'm assuming that different AD versions will significantly in make DR implementations different? Thanks for any feedback

So far as I know, it's still logged to /etc/messages with output. It will show any corrections and completion status. It does not prompt for committal of changes, unlike wack/wafl_check. Hi toasters... currently i am running a wafliron. My question now is, do i get any kind of output after wafliron has finished?? Do i see if there where any wrong blocks and if Ontap was able to solve the problem or not?? Or is there any extra command to assure that there is no problem in wafl left?? If you do this, I assume you had to set some thresholds somewhere on the filer right? I didn't realize that sending those thresholds would do anything other than send snmp traps. NetApp equivalent of all_squash,anonuid=100,anongid=100

I'm trying to set up an NFS path where all clients get squashed to a single UID The normal export doesn't work, as my NFS clients are Linux 2.6 with real uid/gids sent /vol/vol1 -sec=sys,rw,anon=100 In this case, only ROOT client access get squashed to uid 100. Instead, here's what I tried: /vol/vol1 -sec=none,rw,anon=100 Unfortunately, my Redhat Linux client (2.6.9-42.ELsmp) refuses to mount Mounting NFS filesystems: mount: 192.168.1.10:/vol/vol1 failed, security flavor not supported Packet traces show the Linux system sends the MNT request with Flavor AUTH_UNIX, and the NetApp replies OK-Flavor:AUTH_NULL along with the appropriate supplemental fsid file handles. Only, Linux is 'smart' and refuses. I also don't have any server side control over GID either.

We just run an rsh "quota report" every 15 minutes an have a perl script send the emails. This solution becomes more portable if you decide to switch NFS appliances at some later point (but why would you!). We turn on wildcard quotas and get per user usage info too. Included a sample of the mail, [some company specific info stripped], that DFM sends when a User is over Quota. The mail is fully customizable. Hi there, I wanted to ask if a filer supports notification for users regarding the fill level of a volume. i know it's possible with external monitoring tools (nagios), but i need something like snmp traps or mails. thx, christian

With DFM it is possible to configure an SNMP trap, email or pager alert for a two thresholds (Nearly Full and Full thresholds). And these thresholds are configurable from DFM. Another thing which came into my mind is the use of DFM (Data Fabric Manager). This is a tool from Netapp and has the ability to collect a lot of information from your filers and present them via a web-interface and can sent out mails as well.
