Spare Drive Assignment

My customer had to replace a drive, and they asked if a filer can be told (non clustered system) to automagically assign a new drive to the only head in the system? Just seems odd to have to tell the system the ownership of a drive, with only one head in the mix.

Ohh..those shelves. I -think- theyre FC7s and FC8s. Should work with any head thru the 800 series of filers, I dont recall the official answer on using those with 900s. My good old F720 seems to have run out of gas. It is now running at 100% CPU utilization all the time and application performance has gotten really bad. I'm hoping to be able to upgrade the head and still use the three drive shelves. But I'm wondering why I'm seeing this poor performance all of a sudden and if it really is normal behavior. Converter

Hi, We plan to migrate from a F740 to an FAS920. Since the 920 has an LVD scsi connector, we'll need an LVD to HVD converter in order to continue using our existing tape library. Anyone using a converter of this type? I've seen several via google, so I'm looking for some feedback from people using this option. Thank you.

autosupport - logs

I have around 50 or so entries in ./etc/log/autosupport directory on all of my filers dating back to July '04. Does anyone know if this is something that can be safely purged ? Why is it being accumulated ? BTW, autosupport is enabled and is working correctly. Thx, George

routed

DOT 6.4.4 seems to want to run routed by default. Last reboot I missed the fact that it was turned on and now its running with a sizable route table. In my mind there is no reason to run the routed and take up memory space by the ensuing route list. Am I missing something obvious? -Rob

Destroying failed disks

Good Morning (or afternoon/evening, depending on your location) - I'd like to conduct a quick poll on the process those of you employ to destroy failed filer hard drives. Do you use an outside service to physically destroy it, utilize something akin to 'shred -z,' or an entirely different approach? Thanks, -t
