R100 with 256 meg cf card

I've tried to upgrade two r100's from 32 meg CF cards to 256 meg CF cards (so we can have a backup boot image with OnTap 6.5) On both occasions it's pretty much choked as soon as it's tried to see the 256 meg card and we've had to do some messing around to get a single image onto the card I'm beginning to think that an R100 running 6.4.x just can't see a 256meg cf card correctly and was wondering if anyone else has had a problem doing this? "Failed" disks on old FC9 shelf

I'm trying to resurrect an old F760 with two FC9 shelves. Both shelves have got 33GB disks in them. One shelf is recognised fine by the filer, the disks in the other are all shown as failed. It's been a long time since I had a filer to play with, so I suspect there may be some configuration / formatting issue causing the problem rather than dead disks. When I boot the filer I get the following: error 19 (disk not ready for requested operation) while reading ownership on disk 1.8 (S/N 3CD1K2JW000021304AR5) error 19 (disk not ready for requested operation) on disk 1.8 (S/N 3CD1K2JW000021304AR5) while reading individual disk ownership area (repeated for each disk on the second shelf) Disk 1.22 Shelf ? Bay ? [NETAPP X231_ST336704FC NA41] S/N [3CD1JAGA00002131841C] initialization failed. (repeated for each disk on the second shelf) No SCSI-3 Enclosure Services on channel 1 shelf 2. Check drive placement. Enclosure services unable to contact shelf attached to channel 1. Disks moved from shelf 2 to shelf 1 remain dead. I've tried booting into maintenance mode and reformatting the dead disks. This resulted in an lots of fun and games trying to recover from the 512 byte sector size that the disks were formatted with. Has anybody got any ideas? I'm hoping it's something reasonably straightforward... -Ronan

Found the answer: Even in FCP world, you will have to set a preferredIP address. The procedure to do this is as follows: http://now.netapp.com/Knowledgebase/solutionarea.asp?id=kb4350 <http://now.netapp.com/Knowledgebase/solutionarea.asp?id=kb4350> By setting a PreferredIP address, you will prevent VIFs from flaking out Snapdrive MUST have an Ethernet connection to the filer regardless of the SAN implementation. The Snapdrive "Command & Control" traffic will not flow across the SAN. Snapdrive is using ZAPI and CIFS calls to communicate with the filer and that can only travel over a public Ethernet connection.

QLA2340 in FCP mode w/SD

I installed two QLA HBA in a FCP SAN. I went to install MPIO license and then rebooted the servers. Now I can't manage the luns in SD; however, I can see the drives in 'My computer' Originally I thought it may be a SANSurfer or Host Attach Kit issue, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It appears that SD uses the UNC path to make the initial connection. Since I had VIFs enabled, it seemed like the path was failing somehow. Has anyone else seen this happen or does anyone know why SD needs to use the UNC path to make the connection. What if my ether-switches die? Hi, I found your messages, i am looking for NetApp 7.0 certification NACA useful questions or material, i can help on Veritas foundation suite, which i am going for exam next week. Awaiting for your earliest response please. Thanks & rgds, Sarath. ---------------------------- I fond the NetApp exams to be probably some of the best in regards to the following: 1) They do not ask questions that are on notes in the training materials. 2) The questions are all on relavent information that is contained in the training materials 3) There are 5 questions related to experience in working with the Filer This is done to help eliminate the 'paper' certifications. 4) On the above experience questions should not cause you to fail if you have studied the training material. 5) After any of the exams I've been able to go to the training material and find the answer rather easily. From other vendors, I am still looking for answers to. Good Luck on the Exams. I also hear that NetApp is changing the Certification Process yet again. Netapp 18GB FC9 drives cheap

Thought id see if anyone on the list needs any 18GB drives from an FC9 shelf/7xx series filer? $5 each plus shipping. they are all in good working order but just sitting here im sure someone can use them. thanks

NetApp searches?

We've got about a half terabyte of data on our F740 in our main office. The folks over in our remote office also access this via a T1. The remote guys would like to be able to do quicker searches through much of this data, probably just by filename. Is there a native NetApp search tool? Any other recommendations? One of the engineers has asked I just do a cron job every night of a complete file listing into a file... but I think this is something that might not even run overnight, we've got so many files. thanks johnS

Endeca, Verity, Autonomy and Fast are a few other companies that have good search products. Yes, you should definitely consider an off the shelf package that takes security into consideration. Endeca is interesting in that it not only does keyword search, but it also does category navigation so if you don't have the exact thing that you are searching for you can still find things pretty quick.
