low throughput with NetApp filer.

Hi everyone, I have encountered a problem with a NetApp filer F720. I get a very very low throughput from the filer when i try a backup to a StorageTek tape connected to it, the throughput being 6 MB/min. And, i have known from some other NetApp users that the filer can give a max of 45 MB/min. If i connect the same tape to some other windows m/c and do the backup, the throughput rises to 116 MB/min and keeps increasing thereon. Now, i tried both local and remote backups to the tape. I did a backup of data from the disk on the filer to a tape locally connected to it. Also, i tried a remote backup of data from a remote m/c to the tape. The throughput in the 1st case was 13 MB/min while for the second, it was 6 MB/min. I have considered any network congestion that might cause a low throughput, but a remote backup to a tape on a windows m/c was pretty high (116 MB/min), which only leads to that probably the filer's is reducing the throughput. I need help in figuring out where the problem lies. To my conjecture, i believe it is the filer thats somehow spending a lot of time reading and writing from/to the tape. Any suggestions are welcome. Data ONTAP 6.1.3 running on an F520

Greetings Toaster Fans, Has anyone out there successfully run ONTAP 6.1.3 or later on an F520 running both CIFS and NFS? We are planning on migrating the data to an R150 later this year but are doing an AD migration which is not supported under 5.3.7R3 and are looking for a quick fix. We have done some preliminary testing with a spare head and 6.1.3 installed without a hitch. In addition we have created some CIFS share which are working correctly. Regards, Joseph C. NetApp vulnerable to RPC bug?

Hi, We had several core dumps on our filers today. To be exact those were - 1 node a FAS980c - 1 node a FAS270c - R200 - F760 running 6.5.1. All machines crashed within half an hour with the following message: Panic string: PageFault (write invalid page) on address 0xc7d2e000 (errcode 0x2), eip = 0x713cb1 esp = c1afbd7c ebp = 0xc1afbd84 cs = 8 eflags = 10202 in process SMBRPCWor As those filers are used in different windows domains from different clients I can't think of any normal client that could have caused the crash. Then some hours later I found an article from SANS about a new version of the PhatBot worm seems to include an LSASS exploit code. http://www.incidents.org/diary.php?date=2004-04-27&isc=932fe245375de59f9d00… I don't like the idea, but could OnTAP be vulnerable to a windows exploit? We have the following mounts on the mailhost: /var/spool (filer1:/vol/v04/mailhost_spool) /var/log (filer1:/vol/v04/mailhost_log) /var/mail (filer1:/vol/v04/mail) No issues with log or mail, but the queues in /var/spool just crawl at an unacceptable speed, the volume not being to high at all. Right now all queues are repointed to local disk. I think sendmail and traditional spool (all mails in one file) will be a mess over NFS. We have no trouble with postfix/maildrop spool on NFS. The spool is separated over several filers, volumes and qtrees for performance reasons. REQ: Survey: Maildir on Netapp Filers

Dear list, I would like to perform a survey of past and current experiences with deploying and maintaining an IMAP+POP maildir cluster (e.g. Courier-IMAP), backed by Netapp filers, with > 50k mailboxes. Especially of interest is any problems you faced, how you solve them, recommended design decisions, common pitfalls, etc. You can e-mail the list or me privately, whichever you think is more appropriate. The reason is this: I'm having problems with _my_ maildir setup on Netapp, I have a feeling there's something wrong in my setup somewhere that I can't figure out yet, and searching for any clues you might have from past experiences, knowledge (esp. you Netapp engineers out there), etc. Sorry if all this sounds too general, I have a lot of things in my mind and hope this would be good for starters, for in-list or private discussions.
