I'm having a problem with my filer. I'm sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find the answer. The filer is working great with existing network, using e0. When I try to bring up another network card on a seperate network, the filer tries to register the new ip with the WINS server on the first network. That operation barfs, then it looses communication with the DC (you can ping the DC, but "cifs testdc" fails) If I shutdown the new interface, communications with the DC resume. Everything seems to work fine during the period in which it is out of communication with the DC. I don't want it to register the new IP with the WINS server or DC (Can I stop that?). You can do an 'ifconfig eX -wins' to either de-register the new NIC and/or not register it at all. Just do it before you bring the interface back up and you should be fine. Solaris ACLs on NetApps

About 2 years ago, we had a discussion about whether or not Solaris ACLs were supported by NetApp. They weren't but there was an RFE in for it. Does anyone know what the current state is? Should have my 880 in the data center on Friday. I'll let you know what the general consensus is... Yeah, the faceplate will be nice, but I'm looking more forward to the flawless Outhouse-like crate the racks ship in. I'm planning on bringing in my sawzall to cut a half-moon in the door. The elegant, understated blue of the F700's is nice. Fits in elegantly with the purple (er, "periwinkle") of the Sun gear. I think next we ought to have a gleaming black, or maybe a rich charcoal... or better yet, just have a custom grille color selection and paint 'em to order. :-) Right. A couple of quick thoughts: When installing CarrierScan, make sure to select CarrierScan RPC during the install process. If you just accept all of the defaults, it is NOT selected and the AV scan machine won't be able to "see" the filer. And, as has already been mentioned, make sure that the service account is a member of the filer's local Backup Operators group. I have set up CarrierScan and it has been running since April. I have it running on NT 4 not 2000 but I have never put the CSS servers IP address in my Host or Equiv file. What I did was create an account in my domain, placed that account in the Backup Operators group locally. I enabled VSCAN on the Filer then during the install of CSS it asked for the Filer (host) and I entered the Filer. I needed to tweek some setting within CSS for what I wanted but other then that there was no real major changes to files (host, equive or usermap.cfg). Syamantec and NetApp are still working on some open issues I have but overall I think it is a good product. One suggestion for anyone implementing CSS would be to set the following hidden option. vscan options mandatory_scan off If you do not set this and lose the scanning functionality it will lock all the files (doing SCANREPAIR). Everyone coming into the Filer via CIFS (volume, tree, etc) will get a message to the affect that there is a network error when trying to access files. Of course this is an erroneous error which I have also spoken to Symantec and NetApp engineering about. If anyone has any questions I can help with feel free to contact me. Hi Dave, For anonymous ftp access, then you only need one entry in the filers' /etc/passwd file, namely the "ftp::65534:65534::/path:" entry. You should use a Unix qtree, since the files accessed must not have ACL's on them. However, you do not need an NFS license.
