Yes, you should be able to directed attach a fibre channel tape drive:

In order to know if your tape device is supported you can check the system configuration guide at this URL:
http://now.netapp.com/NOW/knowledge/docs/hardware/NetApp/syscfg/scdot722/index.htm

If your tape drive is not listed there take a look at

as you might very will still be able to use it.
