Basic read/write lun clone is free for block storage and built into OnTap. The clone of the lun will live in the parent volume along with the source, so any net new data written to the clone will use up space in the parent volume along with the source lun - they’ll share the space. FlexClone moves the clone out into its own separate volume. This allows you to write new data independently of the space available in the parent volume and that new data will not be captured in any scheduled snapshots that occur on the parent volume. Scheduled snapshots need to be taken into account when using the basic lun clone functionality if you’re going to be writing data to the clone.

Hi all,

I ask this to field for I’m receiving not always clear answers.

The environment is this: Oracle RAC and ASM with backups managed by SMO in SAN FC storage.

If I would mount a snap to have a rewritable image do I need the FlexClone license too?

If I would clone a snap do I need FlexClone?
