Hello and Thank you!
The team that I walk for, Rich's Road Crew, finished in high spirits yesterday. Last year there
were 20 walkers on the team and we raised just over $20,000. This year there
were 62 walkers and so far we
have raised over $45,000. Every donation counts against the
fight and I will be thanking every
individual that donated personally. Your honorees were
all on my shirt as is the Jimmy Fund Walk tradition. Your money is going
straight towards the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and their efforts to Conquer Cancer. The
fundraising is active until November, so it is not too late yet http://www.jimmyfundwalk.org/ttgrant).
:)
I want to honor my
largest supporter who is an ex Corona Del Mar High School Water Polo teammate
and now a successful District Manager and colleague at EMC who put
up $500. The majority of the funds raised for Rich's team has come
through hundreds of smaller donations each and every penny of which is
sincerely appreciated. Thank you to all.
6,000 walkers joined the event this year to help contribute
to the expected 2009 tally of $6.5M. While I chose to walk the entire route
(26.2 miles along the entire Hopkington to Boston Marathon Route there are 5
routes to choose from --- the choices are derived in part because many current
patients participate. One of the starting points is from the Dana Farber Cancer
institute itself where many patients, family members, and friends start a two
mile route to join everyone else at the finish. http://www.necn.com/Boston/Health/2009/09/13/Thousands-walk-for-Jimmy-Fund/1252882245.html
Walking sounds so simple...
but my raw feet tell me that the Boston Marathon route is at least a solid test
and seeing all of the patients highlighted along the route and walking with us
yesterday, I certainly have nothing to complain about today.
Thank you and warmest
regards,

PS this is the last
email I will be sending as a broadcast, thank you for your patience.
Hello,
In the Winter of 2007 my good friend Rich Haskins
was diagnosed with a terminal form of Leukemia. Since then Rich has been
stoically positive, and is an incredible influence and motivation to me as a
business leader, father, husband, and Friend.
Last year we rallied around
Rich to help raise funds for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy
Fund Walk. This gave me a chance to walk for those in my family that have so far
successfully fought off breast cancer - my Mother-in-law and both my maternal
and my paternal grandmother. For a close family friend that lost the fight. The
attached photo is of my sleeve from last years race with all the names of those
just mentioned.
For those that you know, for those that have
inspired you, please join me in supporting the fight against
cancer.
I will be walking 26 miles along the Boston
Marathon route. I am proposing that you pick either 50 cents a mile
($13), 1 dollar a mile ($26), or 4 dollars a mile
($104).
Warmest Regards,
Travis Grant
