console is great to as it let's you control with passwd who can make a serial connection to which machine

ii  conserver-client                 7.1.3-1                          connect to a console server
ii  conserver-server                 7.1.3-1                          connect multiple user to a serial console with logging
ii  console-common                   0.7.16                           Basic infrastructure for text console configuration

you always can saved the output with the 'script' utility
use : script -f my_output.log
to save in real time the output to the file my_output.log

I know this can be done; I can't find it in my notes. Does anyone know
how to redirect console output to a file?

As I use console over serial to another host's Cyclade, where most of my
routers and servers have serials connected, I use screen(1) with logging
for each of /dev/cuaac's

Works as a charm.
